I vaguely remember the Roadrunner. Seems like it was on I-10 almost in the middle of town.
I don't remember where I-10 ended, but remember getting off on Buckeye or running I-8 out to Gila Bend if I didn't need to go to Phoenix.

How about that craphole in Jackson MS located where the Petro is now?
Now that was sleazy, in more ways than one.

Going West from the last TA
Go down two more exits, turn left,2nd light turn left, next light turn right
next light turn right follow 3/4 mile ALL THE IDLEYOURAZZOFF PARKING YOU CARE TO HAVE!:biggrin_255:
Several abandon buildings with well lit parking lots and nothing to bother you.Your less then 1.5 miles from the Interstate.

    poorrednek and LooneyTune Thank this.

You know, this is a pretty shabby truckstop as far as amenities go but I got to where i enjoyed staying there because just across the bridge over the interstate about 2 football field lenghts away next to the hotel is a cool little Italian Food Joint/Bar. It is built in what looks like used to be a big ole house and when you walk in it is all cozey and homey like a little pub. And they have a nice sized dining area as well with a big ole flat screen TV. i watched the superbowl there a couple of years back. They normally have nice looking ladies working the bar,the beer is real cold, mixed drinks are good, food is Great and the prices are on the good/great side as well. I always looked for these kind of places when i was looking to shut down for 34's and stuff. There are a few gems out there even if you have to park at a dumpy truckstop to go to them. As far as flat out horrible places, its closed down now but the old TA in Conley/Atlanta Georgia was just an awfull place for a laundry list of reasons. The I-55 stop in Bolingbrook illinois is one that was pretty horrible as well.

on NC-71 in Maxton, NC there's a BP right in front of the campbell soup plant.

i was bobtailing from campbell and went there to wait for my load assignment... 1 ugly ###### lizzard and 3 meth addict trying to hook me to their finest north carolina's ##### and sell me some ####. plus those same 3 guys were looking for something in the trailers... good thing i had 1 hour left before my 10 and there were a way to bypass the DOT scale on I-95...

i usually try to camp at flying j wich is my #1 choice to spend my 10... if i get to a dump full of rats ( animal and human )... i have some knife ready to hurt

if you go south 12 or so miles you can hit the loves on 95 in dillon which is better then guessing about that one scale between cambells and pilot.i started doing this cause that scale is always open when i go there.

This thread gave me many good chuckles. Surprised no one mentioned the Wilco at exit 139 off of I-26 in St. Matthews, SC. Haven't stopped there in years; hoping they finally got some new and responsible management to clean the place up.

I want to be 'politically correct' so I'll word my comments accordingly.

The employees and management at the Wilco reflected the local demographics and the place was run accordingly. It became a magnet for drivers from north of the mason-dixon (NE US to be specific) who would just hang out in the parking lot looking for their next 'victim'. Management at the time tolerated the mayhem because 'it entertained the employees'.

The food and service were borderline at best and, along with having to carry a concealed sidearm every time I stopped there it became a 'non destination'. No problems with lot lizards and assorted locals being somewhere they didn't belong that I recall, just badly misguided northerners often seeking to manufacture an altercation. I often wondered about their sexuality but that's another topic.

Been to numerous truck stops/ fuel stops in the NE US over the years and only had one problem that I recall. There was an interesting individual at a small fuel stop on I-88 between Binghamton and Scheneetady, NY who refused my fuel card for a ridiculous reason despite the business being listed in my national fuel stop directory. When I asked to purchase a lottery ticket instead he just about ##### himself as he realized I wasn't intimidated.

Another driver who was standing close by (from Quebec) directed me to another fuel stop owned by the same co. a few exits away - had no problems there at all. I mentioned my previous predicament to the fuel desk clerk and she laughed. She named the fellow and stated 'he had some serious problems'.

I do recall the Pilot on I-75 close to Wildwood, FL(?) where the employees also 'serviced the parking lot clients' many years ago. Also, another fuel stop on I-4 north of Orlando that had some very attractive and super friendly college age women working there. A fellow employee stated these gals were indeed local college students who helped pay their bills etc. by......:biggrin_25524:

In my years on the road the WORST truckstop I was ever at was the 76 on Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando. I'm sure it's been torn down by now but unless you were ever there you just cannot imagine what a dump that was. I used to deliver pretty regularly to an Industrial Park not too far from it and it was the ONLY truck stop even close. That place had every conceivable thing you only hear about these days. I really can't think of worse one anywhere.
