Worth getting a CDL in my situation?

Yes....if you have a solid 6-figure job that you like (plus good benefits) -- by all means, keep it.

CDL hiring right now is slow & lazy....in many places. Even for drivers with good experience, & good safety records.

Too many drivers....not enough freight.

With all that said....Montgomery is not a bad place to be, at all -- if & when you need to make a change.

People are the worst cargo. Motor coach experience doesn't really do anything to help you get a job moving freight.

 

Applying for a CDL with many months or a few years since your last CDL work is not attractive to any legitimate employer.

 

I'll second that -- motorcoach work does NOTHING to give you true class "A", big rig experience.

Those are totally different, mutually exclusive worlds.

They are car salesmen selling you on the thing that pays them a bonus. Recruiters are professional liars, not consumer advocates. I got into trucking during the first Gulf War airline recession (pilot/A&P).

 

If you are married, driving OTR will cause a divorce. Never home & less money than your current job. Women are not big fans of being left alone & less income.

 

If you love flying (fixed, or rotary)....stick with it.
