That's kind of odd to hear, considering that you won't get onto most sea ports without it. Of course, your take on the whole thing may have something to do with the fact that each of these ports seem to have its own rules and entry requirements: at some ports the TWIC card is all you need; but some other ports may require you to obtain yet another credential in addition to the TWIC card (like Blount Island, for example; you also need something called a 'Jaxport Badge' along with the TWIC). We're talking about a federal ID here so it would be nice to see them standardize these requirements nationwide but, at a minimum, you'd still need that TWIC card just to get past the gate.

i had to wait for the local driver to go load my load for me, it sucks. i would have much rather done it myself. i got my renewed since then. so it is for me worth it to get a twic.

I've never been asked for mine, but when asked for a photo ID (especially if they want to make a copy for their files) I hand over my TWIC because there is no personal info printed on it...just my name & picture.
