I am going to make one more comment and edit my first one. After looking at it I feel it is a bit strong and will change some of it.

There is a thing on the internet called a search engine. Really nice thing if used properly, sorry @bullhaulerswife no offense here but these search engines are to me even more useful then this sites search engine. I use bing. Here I will help you with the proper words to enter and you can clearly see the results. If some people would at least do a quick search before making a post a huge amount of the debate would not happen.

Yes, and there is a reason for that. The FMCSA considers ALL vehicles used in interstate commerce with a rated weight of 10,001 or more pounds a commercial vehicle!

Great so it’d be cdl experience with a straight truck. All I wanted from the get.

No. It's a cmv yes. It is not a cdl required cmv.

Cmv starts ar 10,000 (for most states) and all interstate trucks.

A cdl requirement starts at 26,001 lbs.

(Well busses and hazmat are different requirements)

While you need dot numbers (or state equivalent for intrastate) and logs, you do not need a cdl.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer. However I must. You are going to find for the purposes of a motor carrier using combination vehicles that all your prior none combination vehicle experience is totally WORTHLESS. If your plans are to get an A CDL this is NOT the way to do it. Sorry, it is what it is.
