Yes it is a big difference and I did get out. I could have spent the night there if I wanted to and go skiing as I had an extra day to get to where I was going.
Would I make a good driver?

You are Lucky..Many ''new'' drivers are not even allowed to leave the darn truck stop..
They are imprisoned with the dispatch or have to rent a car...Not to mention the newer guys and some older ones to,will never have a ''day off'' because the dispatch keeps them moving..NewNashGuy Thanks this. -
Heck I haven't talked to my dispatch in a month lol. I once asked them if everything is OK since they never contact me and my FM said that he knows that I got everything under control so he doesn't have to say anything to me. They just send me an assignment and if I am delayed or need to change appointment, I just call the broker or shipper and change everything on my own so I don't have to bother dispatch. I try to run things as if I am o/o to prepare myself for a possible future as an o/o.landstar8891 Thanks this.

I have a friend in his 1st year. The first year seems like hell anymore...He ''never'' has time to ''visit'' anywhere he is..He runs NY to Cali..All he can do is stop for a few minutes because of the E-LOG.So he is always on the hussle..
Granted, when he has his 34 hour restart they will NOT allow him to use the bobtail to go ''visit''.So if he does want to actually visit he has to pay 50.00 a day for a car rental and the fuel...
I am just saying... -
Well congrats on your 28 years of driving I cannot wait until I reach that mark. Twenty six years from now I will probably have an electric truck that drives itself.
Truckergirl0720 Thanks this. -
There are a lot of local or regional dedicated routes. Most if the drivers I know fall into these two categories. The companies range from O/O to large fleets.
I have kids but I could never deal with a bus load of them.
The mega carriers offer training but at a price that us more than paying out of your pocket.
The small companies generally do not train.
Without knowing your location it is hard to give more advice. -
