If you physical'd and/or drug tested an/or had a background check done to get the job, I'd say yes because it may come up on a carrier's background check and they may ask what was the disposition of that job application, if not, I wouldn't mention it, you've been unemployed since whenever

Gaps usually are NOT A PROBLEM! I just want to say this again since so many people seem to think if they were out of work for 6 months, a year, two years, or even 5 years that there is no hope for them because of job gaps NOT TRUE! My friend quit his job and took off two years because he wanted too and had the money to do it. He went to school got his cdl and got pre hires from so many companies he had trouble deciding who to go with. Just BE HONEST about your gaps and don't make up crap. He told them he left the work force for two years, which is what he did. If some company gives you crap about work gaps they aren't worth working for in the first place, because they are recruiting immigrants left and right and sticking them in trucks WITHOUT checking their work history from the country they come from or even their CRIMINAL history from the country they come from!

Ive worked for a couple different companies (welding/fabbing) that I dont even say I worked for. I still have my own business (welding/repair/fabrication/machining) even though I dont have much work. Have had it for 11 years, So there is 10 years many companies want. I just put down the good places I worked and leave out the bad. When It comes to trucking my understanding is you cant really do that. But gaps are mostly gaps in the trucking world.

Yes very true, it's the gaps in the trucking world that can sometimes be an issue, once you have your cdl and are working driving a truck. Like if you worked for just say for examples sake, JB Hunt for 6 months and then didn't list that when you applied for a new job, that would cause an issue. That's why when you get a notarized letter for large gaps you are supposed to state something to the effect of, "I was not working in a D.O.T. regulated industry from such and such a date."

make it a habit if you drive a diff vehicle , you chk plate, permits, insurance etc....in reality, you shouldnt operate any vehicle if those items are missing or expired....i know that wasnt your question.....just a little friendly advice....

Another suggestion would be to go to work at any job for a solid 3 years, while getting all your legal affairs, your deceased mother's estate, and your personal affairs in order. This way you will have a 3 year work history not having worked in a CDL job or any D.O.T. job that required a C.D.L.

I wouldnt worry about a gap, I was unemployed for over a year and a half before I talked to a recruiter and got my cdl and a job, all they want is for you to explain the gap pretty much.

It might be a good idea to have a notarized letter, from a family member or friend, that you were taking care of your mom for those time period, then there is no question. I think the gap in work history comes from the idea that you might have been in jail.
