Exactly what we were thinking. Plus compared to the old truck mpg the new one we roll in now practically pays for itself on the amount we save on diesel. The "old" truck was about 5.5 AT BEST the new guy at 6.7-6.8 :)

What if you hired 3 drivers, and they all had every third week off. There are probably many older drivers that do not need the money so much any more, and would love to have a job like that. That way, 2 are not getting sick of each other, and if one got ill, had a family emergency, or quit, the other 2 could cover till you and your Dad found another driver that liked having every third week off. Imagine, not having to worry about 2 guys being in that truck to take the load every week.....You would just have to require the off or new driver to maybe run a few weeks in a row, to give back to the other 2. Anyways.....

With the respect they had for you and your Dad, and taking care of the truck, I doubt it would cost any more in the long run. You guys would be famous....Through word of mouth, you would have drivers trying to knock your door down to get hired.......

Thanks kw600. I have never hired a driver, but there must be upfront cost, such as drug screening, back ground checks, etc. Also, if you offer them insurance, now for 3 instead of 2. I do not know what the mileage rate is for a team, but I calculated that they could still make a living, working the 2 on and 1 off. You probably would attrack even young single drivers who want to have time off to meet someone, and even young married men, who have a family and do not want to miss their children growing up.

I would think having 2 happy men in your truck would be cheaper in the long run, than 2 misserable men that hate each other, their boss, and everyone on the road. If an employee is content, they will try and save you money, but if not, they will dream up a thousand ways to break you and your Dad.

Make you famous was not a very good choice of words. But, what was meant, is that good deads and good jobs do not go unnoticed. They spead far and wide. I would think it would be more rewarding to have guys begging to work for you, than than opposite. Anyways, it was just a thought, and wish you and your Dad well....

Also, you might set it up in the beginning so that the driver off for the week, has to stay available untill the truck has left the yard, and then when he gets a call from you, your Dad or one of the drivers, he can start his time at home, to do as he pleases.....

I know there are costs for drug screening, background checks and the sorts, OOIDA offers a drug consortium to join, Does anyone have any suggestions in regards to the drug testing? The company we are leased onto pays for ours and the drivers we hire. When we get our authority we would have to pay correct? Because fmcsa when doing audits asks for proove of testing?
