Lots of comments already on here about USX, as 4 the auto trans, I hate the $#*%# thing and I don't even hate my ex-wife. I do not recomend an auto trans 4 a new guy.It is impossible to back up at idle speed,it shifts into nuetral when RPMs get at idle. So you have to ride the brake while backing. It's hard to inch back under a trailer or in a dock.

U.S. Xpress is bad news. I am lucky that they screwed me over before I actually ended up with them. I have a nice position waiting for me at Roehl. While all of the employees at USX treated me very respectfully, I still ended up with nothing - no trainer, no pay, nothing. I would not recommend this company.

I tried to warn you brother. Try Crete if Roehl doesn't work out. Transport America is a good company also, but I don't know if they hire out of Florida.

Yes you did try and warn me. However, if you go back and look at your first response to me, you may (or may not) understand why I had to read it a few times to cool down. The attitude given in your second post was even worse and as such, I paid no more attention to your comments whether the information was correct or incorrect.

Now compare those two posts with the one here. I would jump on this one in a heartbeat and am grateful for the useful information you provide. This one not only helps me, but I'm sure many others who watch these threads.

It isn't at all that you weren't passing along your experience and knowledge of U.S. Xpress, of which you certainly have; it's the way it was presented. In that same thread the discussion came up about truckers attacking truckers because they have no one else to vent toward. I am not sure if you were simply upset by what you read or if you are always that way, but acting a little more like an adult and demonstrating a little common decency go a long way.

They will have you falsifying your log books to keep the customers happy despite their incompetence in load planning and dispatching.

I worked for this company for 6.5 years and it was all downhill after 2004.

If you do not believe any of my posts on this company, that is your choice, but realize this. YOU WILL NOT make a decent living working at this company as a solo driver unless you are willing to run day or night and no matter if you have hours to drive or not, and become a hobo on wheels with no life outside driving your truck.

For those asking about hourly positions remember that it will probably be salaried and long hours at low pay. I worked hourly for this company and it was supposed to be 50hrs at $16 a hour but it turned out to be 50hrs that averaged $16 a hour (no overtime) and then they would call you up in the middle of the night or early in the am on wknds when you were off and want you to work and then have you work half days during the week so you would not get any extra pay.

OTR - REG solo driver will have several different DM's, will be lied to about detention, layover home time etc.. and spend weeks if not months trying to get them to pay you. You will sit all day and then get a mission impossible 15 minutes before your DM leaves because they know they are screwing you over and don't want to hear about it. Solo's get what the Teams don't want and the last minute crap other carriers could not cover. The solo driver will also spend hours picking up loads to take less then a hundred miles to the rail and sometimes more then a day to pu a airfreight load from BAX or Airborne going 8 to 10 hours down the road on your falsified log book or books.

Man, I wish I read all that before signing on with these folks. Worse part is trying to quit. I asked them to get me back to Tunnel Hill, but they told me to leave my truck in Mechanicsburg, PA. My car was parking in Tunnel Hill, and I really didn't want to go through the trouble and expense of getting me and my stuff back to Tunnel Hill, so I spoke to a driver liaison who got my resignation resended. Thought about cleaning out my truck if I ever get to tunnel hill. Wonder if they could somehow put something bad on my DAC for doing that?

BTW: Been there one month, made about $1500 take home. Mainly sit around, but sometimes run all night after waiting all day. Auto-shift does suck for backing. Signed up because I wanted a Volvo, and wanted to run out west, but wound up in a Frieghtliner. Surely with my 10 years experience I could be driving a Freightliner (or something better) for a much better company.

Xpress Global is here in Pittsburgh, too. There is always an ad in the Post Gazette hiring drivers. They pay around 14/hour, which is low. Turnover is pretty high for what a small operation it is. You'll either be pulling a 53 or a pup.

They fail to mention that you have to hand unload a lot of the carpet and flooring if the customer doesn't have a forklift (or dock). I talked to their drivers a lot when I worked for TNT, which had a dedicated Home Depot account.

Xpress Global will deliver to anyone including places without docks and forklifts.

My husband and I teamed for US Xpress for one year. We would still be with them if possible. I had to come home to care for a sick parent. I won't tell you everything was always perfect. We actually trained with another company and then moved to USX. Within a few days we knew we made the right choice. They treated us with respect. The miles were great. Our paychecks were awesome. Problems were resolved quickly. Their equipment is great. They really take care of their trucks. Most of their terminals are modern. They are always clean and well stocked. The laundries are better than most professional laundromats. I was worried about driving the automatic shift at first. Wait until your sitting in traffic and you will appreciate it. I have found that most of the drivers that whine about USX just need to much. Dispatchers are not suppose to be babysitters. You are hired to move freight not make company policy. Their policies are clearly posted. If you don't like their policies, go somewhere else or start your own freight company and make the rules. I have alot of friends that worked for other companies. They all work at USX now and are glad they do. The few friends that didn't move to USX are not driving anymore. There will be problems. You are changing your entire lifestyle. If you have good work ethic and really work hard, this is the company for you. If you just want to drive around and see the country, try something else. As far as the people who complain, they are too particular in hiring: Well, don't you want the company you work for to hire the best? Would you really want your co-workers to be bad drivers and give you a bad name? Think about it. I hope you do join USX. I know if you work hard and have a professional attitude, you will be glad you did.

Well said!!!! I admit am one of the young drivers that had to get his mind straight torwards trucking. Cause i read in another post you have to put in your time with someone (good or bad) thats the trucking way. Now i see. As far USX i think they are a decent fleet to get started with,(might not be fit everyone) without experience it will always be hard to get this and that "dream job".I had a buddy that drove for USX for a little over a year and his hometime was exactly on time, pay was up and down, so was his miles but it all got better when he showed his FM that he's a driver not a whiner. Now he's got the experience and with a better company; at home everyweek end, through the house during the week, cpm went up, etc. "The professional attitude" will all come in place as go down the road of trucking because i know i've made mistake about certain companies. But you gotted "suck it up"<had to tell my self that>My 2 cents:biggrin_25525:
