First, I'm no mechanic. I have no idea how long the truck will be down. When the truck loses all power, blows a cloud of smoke, and leaves an oil trail on the shoulder and big puddle where I got it stopped, it appears pretty bad. What part of day 3 with the company, in the company's mechanic's truck, is encouraging to you?mitrucker Thanks this.
-
None of that is encouraging to me, but it could be just some "dumb luck". I'd keep the lines of communication open with the folks in charges, you may get some home time out of the deal (even if it's unwanted).xlsdraw Thanks this.

Sounds like the turbo's impeller (sp?) grenade. Putting another turbo on is an easy fix. Of course, they have to clean out the air to air intercooler and try to get the grenade fragments before they get sucked into the intake and possibly do internal damage. If that's all it is, the truck should be ready by tomorrow morning at the latest.xlsdraw Thanks this.

IF they have one in Stock, you'd think it would be a common part... but you know how the JIT world operates...xlsdraw Thanks this.

All too well.
It's an older truck. There should be a parts house in the area. They should be able to fix it because it's not under warrantee. If it were under warrantee, he may as well go home.xlsdraw and Pintlehook Thank this. -
More then likey it will be anandonement and if your boss is mad enough he will put other garbage on your DAC.Stay with the trk until you get back to MN and in the mean time make arrangements with your wife that you are quitting after you get back to the yard. You can last a couple more weeks can't you?The next company find one closer to Florida and with better equipment.xlsdraw Thanks this.

I'm thinking it was an oil line that went, the turbo froze and the truck was over fueling. It is was a internal seal that went or an impeller go, that truck would have rev'ed up to turbine speed till the oil was consumed and then seized.

I had one blow. My smoke wasn't like that one. Mine blasted all the engine oil out the exhaust. HUUUUUUUUGE black cloud right during morning rush hour. Oil pressure gauge went limp and I limped off the next exit, and a cop with an oil soaked white cruiser followed me. My reefer was covered in oil.xlsdraw Thanks this.

The whole truck is a rattletrap. Yesterday late, day 2, I noticed a familiar noise. Exactly like the static sound when your radio is on but not on a station. I instinctively reached for the radio to turn it off a couple times but it wasn't on. I'm guessing now that must have been the bearings failing. Anyway, I'm a 13B. Spent too much time on the fire line including once out in front of the fire line when a sentry wasn't at his check point. I'll be the first to admit that my hearing is barely legal.
