Excuse me, but yes all contracts are negotiated. ALL. CONTACTS. ARE. NEGOTIATED.
You think the mega carriers "don't have to negotiate????". Seriously????
They negotiate multi year contracts with the likes of Walmart or Dollar General. Those contracts are "up for bid" every two to five years.
Why would I know about that?
Because three decades of my life was spent negotiating multi year contracts with big box retailers. Everything is negotiable.
Would you accept this offer?

Erm, you started off so promising by a simple list of money this and money that for O/O's
Writing back to me and my reasonable experience short as it is, you cited millions of revenue. We made 67K in 9 months with FFE, Spent 85K of their Fuel, saved who knows how many accounts, generated at least enough revenue to have them break even on us or better for that year. Do we know anything? Nooo.
Then you talk about financial terrorism? We once talked to a trucking company to see about trucking a contents of a house from Fairbanks Alaska to Arkansas. The negotiated rate both of us agreed on to consider came out to right about .55 a mile give or take a few cents. Truck was already in Fairbanks believe it or not and would have come out of there to Montana on NOTHING except fuel bills.
We boiled down the load situation to a relative who did not understand two things. First her Feelings towards the materialistic left overs of a ex husband was fixing to cost way too much money. A little over 5000 dollars. Second we could sit right here in town and buy every item of furniture and have them deliver it 20 miles with a box truck on little more than 3500. We don't need a 18 wheeler to spin money to haul a product we had too much sentimental value for and probably be better off donating to Goodwill locally.
So we declined the freight haul for that company.
How is this financial Terrorism? How is this.. somehow interfering with knowledge on anyone involved in driving a big vehicle a far away distance carrying some of our crap from one state to another. Nothing on that load will be memorable. They might pay some of that desiel to get back into the states with this run instead of nothing except fuel bills on a profit made.
There is some passing down, but for every 100 people wanna drive a truck, I would say half find that they cannot do it, medically etc. (Im one of them, a chronic pain patient on narcotics and pending surgery, two of them believe it or not. After that we are looking at 6 months rehab on the bone replacement parts. I have all the time in the world. The knowledge?
Right here. On this thread and 5 million other posts from a range of truckers and wanna bes asking questions. Not everyone is going to make it past the first year.
There is no greed or monopoly in America. If you remember your history we have had economic troubles since before we were America. the idea that there is a Monopoly got busted up in the SCOTUS several times. The control you speak of over the American worker? Get a grip. Give me a break. Understand this:
The employment of you and your employer is "At Will" you are welcome to keep driving for Shaft U Inc Express for as long you feel up to it each day. If the bosses don't like what you are doing with running into stuff and costing them money and possibly hurting people or killing them with the truck because you don't know how to put down the pot? Stop drinking or any number of other flaws including mental health crisis etc. They are free to release you from that stressful and problem employment. 1000 other people are in line to take over your truck once you are disposed of.
Sometimes you quit. Bye. You follow me? There is no Control, Monopoly or Greed.
Raising family? HA. I could have raised a dozen if very specific situations worked out in trucking on my end and also on the Pretty's end several times in my life. I finally was coming through a town for a meal and met yet another and I never left. Cancer a few years later took care of that family oppertunity pernamently. We could Adopt or we could find a surrogate female to get Prego or anything to get a family started. But it's not in the cards for her and me. Not like that. One of my ancestors in 1855 was at 51 years old who had a 35 year old for a wife and they raised 4 kids. Now I don't know about you but past 50 is a old man and really difficult to raise children doing what we called piece work in a factory situation at home paying for your own materials to do the assigned work with kids all around in that year.
If you knew anything about our History we have been more than generous with our money in the history of the world, history of our own nation and even during really bad times there are mountains of good things coming out to help. That's who we are. We are hardly destroyed as you speak of. That's not how America might be lost. Even if they were, in my house there will always be America as long I live. It wont be perfect and have some limitations sure but it's not going to be destroyed anytime soon.
It's a shame your post about basic numbers to a truck and trailer you appear to own asking about pay in general etc. I tried to be reasonable and challenge some of those numbers indeed I brought up more questions such as why do we need layover pay when we are never paid it? The costs are the same to the truck sitting or moving. As company drivers we don't get that. Any company trying to offer it in such small amounts appear to have alot of layover and thus a redflag to me.
And we make a leap from that to this? this? theological view of our Nation somehow burning in brimestone and sinking in the sins of our filthy ways? Destroying a people with a little bit of trucking that keeps it going? Sometimes at a loss if need be?
That tends to put your credibility out the window unfortunately. I am not much, but I am me and by god I know a little bit about trucking and tried to help you with numbers. For you to reply the way you did and then talk to others bringing up a bigger and more fantastical frame of mind talking about things most truckers do not have time for that... thats not conductive to your ability to be having quality interactions. Im sorry it's the way it has to be.
Im finished here with the OP, I put him on my ignore list and that's for my own good. It keeps me from having to write more than one epic books of thought on how badly things have gone with the OP. Ive said enough. Im just a worn out driver who knows a little of the business. It's not always a good business but by god I'll do it again if given a choice. But that's not going to happen medically. Even if I wanted to, I would find certain aspects of it a constant problem and will not do well. Im too set in my ways. Your load is going to get there when it gets down the road. I am very good with that. But all the computer stuff, 250,000 dollar tractor trailers followed by layers of bosses in a company intent on making sure I did nothing wrong? That's 1984 Orwellian all over again. And so no one is going to benefit from my at will employment in such a dysphoria world out of that truck int he company yard. Any one who did hire me will have nothing of what trucking has evolved into today and a expectation that there is money to be made all around and we are late already get going. No time for all of this world theology and nation building talk. That's too much to worry about. We got other issues already.
Ask yourself are you a American Long Haul Trucker? If yes? Get going, yer late already. If not? Then go do something else if all the fancy thoughts about the People and Nation interested you that much. A politician maybe.Lepton1 Thanks this. -

I post a video of an idiot grain hauler trying to kill people and I hardly get any responses.

Wow ...
If LS was so bad, then why are there single truck owner's net near $300k?
Oh and some of us fleet owners are pushing gross revenue in the seven digits in bad years, and these are good years.
