I'll never forget the meal I had with a trucker. In Lamar CO. He was on his way to Denver to see a friend for her last days. His wife had already passed.
While he didn't let on. It was pretty obvious he was the lone ranger waiting for his time to come. He was pretty upbeat about life. But you couldn't help feeling sad.
My Gpa was also the last of his circle. Outlived 2 wives, brother and sister, and all his friends.
Excluding the kids and grandkids. It's not fun being alone and the last to go.
Would you accept this offer?

We were grossing ~$40,000-$60,000/month/truck doing third-party Landstar loads on six axles. So, yes, they are--or were--out there. However, that was for specialized OS work and I know we were being paid more than captive Landstar trucks.
IIRC, this one paid $13,800 to the truck through a Landstar agent, but the same load had been offered at $9,800 to a Landstar driver that took a similar load at the same time. It took four days and permits and escorts were <$400. It wasn't heavy either; certainly didn't need six axles. The best part is that I didn't have to tarp it, the shipper did.

~$10,000-$15,000 per load, ~one load per week per truck. Some weeks we were even loaded both ways.Dan.S, Lepton1, gokiddogo and 1 other person Thank this. -

ETA: Most of the time we were empty to the U.S. and loaded back. Because the majority of the loads originated in the U.S. we were paid in USD.Last edited: Nov 26, 2018
