Call me Tim Allen. I love the sensation of making horsepower work for me. Alas there is more to trucking than just the drive. I gave up a valuable asset and have not been able to recover yet in this down economy.

Trucking has made me wiser and safer. Would I go trucking again? Maybe, but I doubt it. I had to go and do it for the reason that it seemed like a valuable skill. Alas the training mills have done a good job, they cranked out a surplus every where, so the demand is not there. Finding something that needs my talents is the challenge. I must admit I have a better scope on reality now.

I would have stayed with collage,......And finished a degree,...

When I was out of work I was trying to find a way to be able to go back to school,...And then I got hired on with a very respectable LTL company and landed a city PD run,....I had to take the job,....Money wins every time,...However if this would come to an end,...I would be back in a classroom working a my degree....

Heck no. I'd have a degree and have an office and be around people that could communicate or at least speak english on a daily basis.

Oh, and be around my family everynight. That would be nice. I'd also like to walk through a parking lot to my car and not have to smell other people's piss or have lot lizards come up to me all the time or have to wear shower shoes in the shower. I'd like to take a crap in my own bathroom everyday and be able to walk to the kitchen to get a cup of coffee instead of through the freezing cold or stifling heat. I'd like to not deal with the lumper scam of a business with people who can't speak a lick of english.

Sure, there are perks to trucking, but I'd wish I'd gotten that degree like my wife did. She has it made.

Probably, even though I worked for one of the mega carriers for most of my time, I did fairly well considering.

In a SEC I would only thing I would change would be NOT TAKE THAT BLIND DATE WITH MY EX WIFE in 2000 lets just say after I met her all my troubles started with my health. I am still working them out and one of them I will NEVER GET RID OF called Epilepsy ended up with a Traumatic Brain Injury from a Rear End Car accident and devolped Epilepsy from that in September of 2000 and was forced off the road.

I'll tell you what I would have done different. I'd of gotten into trucking right out of school. Screw the engineering work, screw the law enforcement with its nightmares that still bother me. Screw two ex-wives that I never would have picked up if I had been over the road.:biggrin_25510:

OTOH, I wouldn't have met the lady that I'm married to now, so it could not have been ALL good, I guess.:biggrin_25523:

Same here ... screw all the manufacturing jobs with the back stabbin' and social climbin' and company politics and union elections in the workforce that paid peanuts and demanded all the loyalty you could muster up ... what a crock!

Yep ... I'd have gotten into truckin' a little sooner and been a lot better off! I was droppin' gas at a convenience store in Hartsville SC one day and saw the prettiest woman I ever saw in my life:biggrin_255: having trouble with her car ... I walked over and offered her a hand gettin' it going ... one thing led to another and I made that little baby doll my wife ... ya know ... after all these years she still gets me excited:biggrin_25526: ... and I fall in love with her all over again ... what a woman:biggrin_2559: ... and I have truckin' to thank for all that.

The pay has always been more than acceptable, I still get home everyday so the lifestyle suits me perfectly, I'm able to have a life outside of the truck.

Yeah ... there are still times when it starts to get to me [IMG] from time to time ... but a weeks vacation is what cures that ... and my company gives me 4 weeks paid vacation every year:biggrin_25515: ... anyway after a week off I start to missin my old truck and start gettin' some wanderlust and am ready to go again.

Yep God and my lady and truckin' ( and in that order) have been mighty good to this old man over the years. I wouldn't change a thing except having wasted time doing something else. Not saying it has all been easy, cause it ain't, but it has all worked out well in the end!

No, I wouldn't have done it. I've recently discovered that I'm a total pansy when it comes to my chosen profession!:biggrin_2559: I can usually be found either squealing or tinkling from terror, or doing sound deaf renditions of old rock tunes, at the top of my lungs, due to absolute boredom...
I think I should have gone into something like Occupational Therapy. At least that way, if I'd have rubbed someone the wrong way, they'd still have to pay me for it!:biggrin_255:
