See its not really using his trailer, its renting it from him. He's the broker, its not his freight. Yes, I do also realize 1100 a month is absurd. But just like anything, you test the waters then go for it. I think it wouldn't be the right choice if I also bought the truck and the trailer, without knowing if I want to be in Hoppers my whole life.
Not really buying the guys overhead, he's already sold 7 of his trucks to seperate buyers, to make way for his 10 new 2013's.
Not farm work, he's a broker that just usually hauls in state. Yes, sometimes from farm to the mills, but a lot of his contracts are coming off of the barges in little rock, some fertilizer, some roofing granules, little of everything.
Yes, the 700 for insurance is going to be with my own operating authority, I never once wanted to go the "FARM TAG" route, I just think in the wrong dot man's hand, thats easy money to him.
I'm going to be paying trailer insurance if I lease a trailer from him, or buy a brand new one. He's suppling tires, breaks, lights, wear and tear. Just no driver error. The renting is just a short term plan, to see if I like it.
Plan B- Would be to park the truck, return back to being a company driver all while paying it off, by the time I'm 23, and can do whatever I want, have a debt free truck to make money with.
Plan C-would be to chunk a for sale sign on it and easily get my money back out of it.

Hope I answered everything yall asked, knew I left some out in the first post, but it was long winded enough!!

Sorry semi crazy, forgot to include in my post, ALL miles. Including jumping off the freeway and jogging 40 miles round trip home everynight.
He says (and i take with a grain of salt) that he's booked solid for 2.5 years of just in state hauling.
And it must be pretty profitable if he's selling the old, and bringing in the new 175k dollar petes, tax writeoff or not!

Yes, I would do it. I've been an O/O hauling grain almost 10 years now. I bought a truck and trailer at 21 years old too. Price for insurance is about right for your age. Paying $275 a week for the trailer is better than paying 10% to pull it. Standard in hoppers is 10% lease/dispatch and 10% for trailer. Other people saying to tell him 70% or not paying him to use his trailer to haul his loads dont realize they are paying for using company trailer and paying insurance. You will make more paying $275 a week for the trailer than having them cut 30% right off the top. Move this question over to the hopper thread and see what people say there.

i would not pay that much for that truck one its an 06 cat motor. which should be and EGR motor which sucks. its due for and inframe soon which is about 13,000 to 15,000 depending on what all gets replaced. IE if you do the trubos air to air water pump so on and so on......if you can get the money to buy his truck try looking in the truck paper for better trucks. just because he maintance its very well does not change the fact that parts wear out and its at that point. for 40 grand you can find alot better trucks than one thats needing motor work soon....

So 40k for an exthd pete 550 cat with 600k miles. 40k is to high and he will need an inframe soon? Hmmm 813k on the 06pete with the same motor in it. Never misses a beat for me and no inframe in sight.... that truck is probably worth around 50 depending on how clean it is and level of intetior. Cat did have an all out EGR system either its ACCERT. much different and half the problems of a cummins egr system
