That bites that they can't figure out the problem. If there is enough solid shoulder, I don't see why it would be a problem. Just make sure the shoulder is solid before pulling onto it!

Most definately, I wouldn't put myself in an unsafe position and I wouldn't expect anybody else to either.

I should have been the one to say that.

My first 379 did tat - at least, the engine light. Shut down and it would turn off. Might come right back on, might not see it for days.

Company shop said "EGR", Cummins said "Engine leaks like cheezecloth, EGR is fine"

Never did hear the outcome -after 5 days of sitting on my duff they gave me a new (to me) truck

Hmmm... sounds someone was going through the Gorge to me. If that's where it was, naw it wouldn't bother me. I'd just sneak in between two line haulers, they pass in that thing all the time. Of course, when it gets out & into the 70 MPH area, they're just in the way!

    For real....
No, I'm the guy who gets on CB Rambo's butt for griping about the "rookie" driver going so slow through the Gorge. I always say that I'd rather follow a driver through there slow then set behind a fast truck that messed up & stopped traffic.

I've sat in that thing for hours while mess' were getting cleaned up.

Heh - I used to get all cheezed off at drivers who took their time and stayed within their comfort zone. Of course, then I was younger and stupider. Now, having BEEN one of those guys, I have a lot more respect and tolerance.

Of course, if he's flapping his yap on the cell, that's another story

With a loaded tank I can't do much over 45 m.p.h. through the gorge . I usually have about 4500 gallons in a 6,000 gallon smooth bore tank . If somebody complains on the c.b. I'm going too slow I just tell them they can put up with a little delay because I might have taken a curve a couple m.p.h. slower than I could have or put up with a real long delay because I went into the curve a couple of m.p.h. faster than I should have .
We have drivers that refuse to run the gorge . They say going down I-75 to Atlanta and coming into S.C. on I-85 is longer on distance but shorter on time and saves fuel . I'll pick the gorge over I-285 in Atlanta any day .

My hubby was running through there a couple months back. It was a rainy evening, and another driver from the same company managed to jack his rig, and have the drive tires of his tractor sitting on top of the barrier wall. It was slow going through there for him that evening.

Better to be safe and slow then fast and dead.
Tell those whiners to pull over and dial 1-800-Waa if they have a problem. :biggrin_2552:

Lol - that would REALLY try their patience, as that call would not complete.

    How about 1.800.cry.baby?

It was the Gourge. I didn't have a CB in the truck. For some reason they don't like to have them in the trucks at my company? I thought about pulling off on an exit ramp to let them by, but when I finally saw one I didn't think that it looked like such a good idea giving the terrain that was around it. Over the course of three days the truck went into a "derate", the worst one felt as if the truck had only half of the power it should. Some of the other ones it took a little longer to figure out that they were there. There were times I would be running good, no issues. The very next minute bam, Where did my power go?
