HOS regs? It is really a joke. Just who decided that 11 hrs driving and 3 hrs on duty was enough? Looking at some fellow drivers... I'm betting 7 hrs driving and 2 on duty is way too much for some... conversely 14 hrs driving and 3 hours on duty may NOT effect others ability to run safely. Bottom line, they had to come up with a number and 14 was it, reguardless of the person.
The other bottom line is equipment upkeep... the simple fact IS that it really takes care of itself... underkept equiment breaks down costs money and one will not be in business long running that way, period. Then there are lawsuits(accountability)....(not to say some carriers wouldn't try to run crap equipment)

Oh but it is as black and white as that. See your privilege comes at a price and that price varies by the size of your privilege.
Someone walking down a public road pays but little through property taxes and obeyance of minimal laws.
Someone driving a personal vehicle pays a slightly higher cost via fuel tax, vehicle registration, and considerably more laws.
Someone seeking to operate a commercial concern on public property pays significantly more in fuel and registration as they should for the damage their vehicles do to public property. No not by abuse but by the nature of the use. They further pay a higher cost ensuring some semblance of safety of the public from their pursuit of profit. These laws have a uniformity while allowing various areas of the public to enforce their standards as they deem appropriate.
Need does not equal right Shred. You have no right to use of the publics roadways. You are iissued the privilege in an agreement to pay for their use both in a monetary and with the responsibility of following the laws set forth by the public for the roads use. The very fact we can revoke your driving privilege for failure to follow these laws proves it is not some inalienable right but a privilige bestowed for the roads use.
Now you do have the right to not be arbitrarily excluded because of your education, skin color, sex, lack there of, hair color, social station, penchant for musicals......... -

But why did the HOS come into existence in the first place?
How many drivers fell asleep at the wheel before people stepped up to the plate?

Sch , you think the powers at be care ? With enough power and money a crooked ####-cog-ia poll-itish-ion can get into the white house . But why else would the dem party fight motor voter laws . That would make you prove you lived in the area you were tring to vote in . No one evers explains why in most cities you can have more votes than registered voters !

What is someone ownes no property, but walks?
The fact that a vehicle is still concidered personal property, ordains your 'right' to unmolested travel. As long as your not infinging on anothers 'rights'. (or following laws)
I know the powers that be argue exactly what your saying.... We as Sheeple must obey. I get it.
However, strict Constitutionalists tend not to really see it that way... Why would the Supreme Court deem a personal vehicle personal property and/or effects?
