Your assumption is obviously wrong! The megas do train the most, but they also have the highest turnover percentages...which would include the group of drivers that shouldn't be driving and the megas saw that and got those drivers off their payroll. And where do these "bad drivers" end up going? To mom and pops that don't check background and put the "bad driver" right back at the controls!

Easy as pie. Visual perception is NOWHERE near as reliable as it seems, as anyone who has searched for something for 5 minutes before finding it under their nose, or has pulled out (or almost pulled out) in front of oncoming traffic can attest.
People who turn L across the path of oncoming traffic, run into cops sitting on the shoulder with lights blazing, etc., ad infinitum, often report "I didn't see...".
If one understands just how unreliable it is they will never again drive 12 inches with anything approaching the same confidence.tinytim Thanks this. -

I'd have to agree with the reply but that's not to say there are not more then a few major accidents at the megas involving drivers with less then 6 months. The biggest problem the "megas" deal with from new drivers is thousands of "small" parking lot incidents, and minor street turning incidents, every year. I say "small" and "minor", but that's relative to a major accident involving injury or loss of live and totaling of multiple units. The very high number of the smaller incidents puts them on par with a few serious accidents in terms of costs ... so, at some point the mega releases these drivers that can now pull off a successful road test or interview with another trucking operation, and they talk their way into another driving job who doesn't have the resources or desire to fully vet driver applicants.
All that said, there are some new drivers who are good (safe and dependable) and there some well experienced drivers who are a serious crash waiting to happen. Running a business that relies on heavy trucks, and truck drivers is one of the riskiest things you can do as a business owner/entrepreneur due to the massive public exposure 24/7 in all sorts of conditions and weather with a lot of "unknowns" in the drivers seats.otherhalftw Thanks this.
