I am a new CDL driver and I am wondering what all I can write off on my taxes. I work for Acme Truck line which
is a drive away company. They pay for hotels when we need them but all the drivers have to pay for there food. I had to buy
my own boots and FR's, What else can I write off. Thanks

just take the standard per-deim deduction. comes out to be more than you acualy spend most the time and dont have to save 1000 receipts just keep track of and prof days on the road. ie logs or phone records ect

Always consult with your tax person but if it was me i would get me a walmart Rechargable prepaid visa and use it to purchase all my expenses over the road and at the end of the year I would give all my 12 monthly statements to my book keeper so I don't have to keep saving recipts

It would be better to get a business bank account with debit card. Statements don't show what purchases were for. You should keep receipts. Also copy receipts because print will fade and disappear from most.

For those traveling away from home often, the standard per-diem option is great but only pertains to the daily meals allowance aspect and if you use this method (recommended) you don't need to bother with keeping meal receipts. Theoretically any purchase that is not reimbursed by another entity and is required to fulfill your job to required specs and needs, is tax deductible, this can include a lot of things, and you will need to save these receipts and always try to keep those items on a receipt separate from food and other personal items to greatly simplify tax time. Also, if a receipt description is vague, write on it specifically what the item is because 9 months later it will be hard to remember. Just keep a manilla envelope handy in the tractor and toss receipts in there.

Even cell phone costs can be included within reason.
