Yes, it doesn't seem big truck friendly...

Well now, you are on a sled. If you ever ran a old style sled runner with a bar for steering...

I was on my fuel tank twice in my life to jump or not. The bay bridge scenario in that storm was one story I will share and told on here. But the other I save for myself. The truck was fine. Tires were not the wheels neither. The absolute stroke inducing screaming started that day and thats why I don't put that story online.

However I already pre-decided that if people are going to die, I'll do what I can to let them live. That way if the moment comes up there is no time wasted wondering life or death. OR worse. I don't dwell on it. Im no hero.

At first I thought that was a Pete hood lol till I clicked on the video. $2500 a day and no liability I’ll try and take a truck down it.

I am a firm believer in the principle that a professional driver MUST be able to upshift or downshift going uphill or downhill. When I was a trainer at Swift I would NOT certify a trainee to upgrade to solo unless they could demonstrate this skill.

As has been noted before in this thread, the downshift on a downhill must be started by applying service brakes to about 800 rpm's. Make the shift and see if that next lower gear will hold you with maximum Jake's. If not, then rinse and repeat.

I frequently DELIBERATELY will start down a grade in a gear too high, then downshift as needed, just for practice.

An OTR driver will often encounter unfamiliar downgrades and won't know what gear to take. Even IF you know the route you may encounter traffic that is going slower, like an oversized load with 18 axles going 15 mph. You MUST be able to SAFELY downshift to the right gear to control your descent.

A day cab single screw with a set of pneumatic doubles could get down it, but then I think they we become a part of the beach and stay till nature makes them into a reef. Good Video

There's a grade in Napa going into the Geysers to unload where it would try to spin the drives locked in Posi both axles, climbing up it you would have to back off the throttle a little to keep traction. Jumping and Hopping all the way to the top.

There is one towards Rosebud or Antioch where there is a 3 mile pull to get up towards Heber... (Ozarks) had a home owner up there wanting a pour of a footing.

His common road passed 4 homes like his on the end along a ridge. On the right fields sloped down oh 40 degrees and maybe 200 foot elevation towards the woods even steeper. The left had his property with a driveway that was no problem to lock the brakes and skate down loaded (Sort of like a quarter horse on his ### and horseshoes sliding down a steep) and run out about 100 feet to stop so you don't roll over nose and tail to your death.

The end of the run out is copy of the ridge you came off. It's about another 100 feet. You have to stop. Or die. You will stop one way or the other.

Getting out? whew. You approach this man's drive which is all you see straight up. Maybe 50 foot. You put it into 6th empty and stomp it. As you get halfway up you come off your power instant and feather your brakes. By the time you completed these human actions she hops into the air and plops onto the common road with the front end hanging over the other drop across the roadway. Back up K turn and get back to yard.

Butterflies? Shake it off, youve got another load up there shortly.

Oh and the bossman does not need to be hearing about flying pigs... er truck mixers. Certainly not Corporate.
