We can't put a dress on a pig and call it a little girl. But it sure is the prettiest bacon I've seen and I played ball over seas. You have your good, bad and ugly. You don't have to be out for 20 days but you could. You don't have to get a big check but you could. This is like most other stuff. What you put in you get out. You might enjoy driving straight trucks. That way you gain by having more regular schedule and utilizing your CDL. I think after you run straightees for a while you'll itch to shift big trucks. take a shot.....they will still be making pizzas if you decide you don't like the big trucks.
trucking? Thanks this. -
Yea, I guess the pizza business will always be waiting. I have been doing some serious research on all my options. I may end up going OTR from what I have been seeing. I have been pulling the trailer around the yard pretty good so far but 90 degree backing is killing me. The instructor is barking thru the window like a drill sergeant while i'm chasing the #### trailer around. We take the trucks on the road tomorrow so it is going to be interesting to say the least. Being in this school is a big wake up on whats involved in trucking. The log books, trip planning, and hours of service is just as hard as driving the truck I think.

Trucking?,
you'll catch on to all the backing techniques, especially when you are at a shipper and there is no one but you to do it. The basic fundamentals are what you are after now. My advice....DO IT SLOW!!! as you do it more and more you'll catch your flow. I drove for Swift and drivers talked soo much trash I spent 2 hours practicing at a walmart distribution center......cool story; an older lady(about 60) saw me and came over and gave this gem to me--------1. line up perpendicular to the dock 2. pull forward until your drives are in the middle of the door 3. turn wheel right and drive towards 2 oclock til you see trailer straightening 4. turn wheel left aim for 11 oclock until you're semi jacked. (be sure your doors are open of course) 5 turn your wheels hard right and reverse pushing trailer from nose how you need to do make it work. Hey, I still use that method especially in tight spots that you gotta slide tandems back. Like I said and I'm sure others will agree, once you get out there you'll see it's simpler than explaining it.trucking? and telcobilly Thank this. -
My mentor (just finished training on Sat yay!) worked for American Equipment in Charlotte for a long time before he moved to Cali. He made good money when he was there.. check them out..

I too am concerned about this economy and the state of trucking. I just finished my 6 weeks OTR today and do my last road test tomorrow. Supposed to be in a truck next week... we'll see.
I just want to make a living wage, gf has a good job, but she can't do it all on her own. Good luck!trucking? Thanks this. -
I was with USA for 2 months and was busy driving 90 perent of the time. I think they try to keep the new hires busy because they can pay less per mile to the new guy. I heard they laid off 400 exp. drivers while I was with them. I recently left due to some personal reasons and the total lack of communication with the company while out on the road. I will be going to Swift's orientation in a few weeks and hope things will be better there. Any feedback?
