No Roehl is NOTHING like Werner and if you can get on with them you should. They are as close to Union as you are gonna get without actually being in one. On top of the usual good benefits they do profit sharing, an extra check at the end of the year, have multiple home time packages, and pull everything so you could change up as needed if you get bored.

McElroy would be good in the long run, but no one in NC has been accepted according to the posts, so I don't know why they were there.

Well, I see what your saying BUT they are only hiring for national right now. When we asked more about hometime plus, dedicated, etc., he said they wasn't making any money. At least he was honest. They do have alot of perks but the vibe I got from him wasn't positive. I will need to go read the posts you have mentioned about Mcelroy. My classmate got prehired for the March 9th class but its his plan b to TMC. He is an ex-state trooper with a clean record for 25 years so its hard to gauge who they will accept going by him. My record is extremely clean too so I'm optimistic. I'm going to fax an application tomorrow and see.

You have to realize that you don't always have time or space to down shift gear by gear. When you get a hang of your truck you'll know what gear suits what mph (this may also be different depending on the weight of your load). I may take you about 10 (or more)miles for your truck to adjust to the load. Some ole timers call it "...your box'll settle". Keep at it, just because you desire to be able to do it you'll catch on and be good at it. (until you decide to float-----ha ha ah)

Yea, I have been running into not having room to go gear to gear lately. I have been skipping a gear and its going well. My brain is finally processing that I can use road speed to help shift and not just the rpm's. My instructor said I could pass the test now but we don't start testing until next thursday or friday. I will use the extra week to fine tune as much as I can.

McElroy is flatbed only. I've heard good things about Roehl.

Well, Mcelroy just said they were only doing orientation in Texas now. The woman said they just found out last thursday and they would process my application and keep it on file in case things pick up. I guess its time to go to plan b. If only I had a plan b. TMC turned my friend's application down. He couldn't find out why. I guess I will be doing that heavy equipment class after all. On the upside, the instructor took me on a practice road test and I only had 8 points against me. I'm taking the road test this friday. Well, I'm sure things will work out :biggrin_2552:.

I was turned down by Colonial and told that I if I wanted to find out why that I could write a letter and they would respond with a letter as to why I was turned down. I don't know if it's the same with McElroy, but he could try that, maybe. I wish you luck.

PASSED MY TEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:biggrin_255: I really had to fight the nerves though. My test was at 10 am and I was so nervous I couldn't even finish my breakfast. Out of 96 items to check on pre-trip, I only missed 1, the tractor tail lights of all things. Had a point against me on my yard test. I had to pull up once on my 90 degree back. I had 3 points on my road test. Clashed a gear, stopped abruptly, and forgot to tell the instructor that I would put my flashers on if going slow downgrade. I have one more week but its just doing stuff to pass the class. I also found out that Mcelroy may start hiring again in 3 weeks so there may still be hope with them. I'm going to do a little more job hunting this weekend.
