CSA points anyone? Unless it's sealed AND you have been told that you can't break the seal, you have to get out and look in the trailer before you drive 50 miles, then after EVERY 3 hours or 150 miles of driving.

This happend too me over at at wenger trucking over in dubque iowa, i was told too pickup a trl over the yard, a load of waste alum, allready sealed, i macth up the seal and trl number, light buld went off, rember my traing part, were it says too inspect all loads for proper tie down and stuff, so i went back inside, they wouldnt let me break the seal, got into a big heated fight, threw the little green book at em, he threw back at me , i dont care get going, so i did, made far as 39/90 ramp , were it merges onto 90, i look back i said o scoot , my rear tadem was coming up , i went into def drive mode i didnt even have the foot on the throttle i was going slow, no matter what i did , it was coming up, over it went, slide across 3 lanes of traffic on the side, didnt even break anything , no glass , no mirrors, easy roll, but i did break the steering roll pin out the shaft, that accident tore out my rotor cup on left side, spent time in hospital, and what dot said my load of alum iggots, there size of pool tables, had 4 in there, stack 2 deep, the one in front slide thru the front corner as i was turning and went thru front corner of trl, went too court over in wisc , the judge threw the ticket out and said not my fault ,becuse the trucking company would not let me look into the trl , as too see how it it was loaded and stuff and went after the trucking company and made them pay my hospital bill too, then after that they gave me crappy loads and no miles,o well got rid of them , lesson learned in my trucking life :biggrin_25513:

Um, did you not read the cargo securement and inspection regulations that I quoted with subpart and paragraph numbers? You know, that little green regulation book from the government that gets updated every month? I'm sure your safety director will give you one if you ask nicely :)

This may be a company specific policy(and only somewhat related to the OP's problem) but I was taught, unless put on by the shipper, to break the seal and verify the load I'm picking up is going to the addy on the BOL...It helped me once as I was told to hook up to trl 2226 and upon inspection, found it not going to my destination...The actual trl I was suppose to get was 2262...

You did the right thing (minus throwing the green book lol). If you get a sealed trailer, and the shipper does not allow you to break the seal, then you are covered. Be sure to note on your BOL - sealed trailer, shipper load and count.

Only a motor carrier enforcement agent or the receiver can open the sealed trailer. If one does, be sure to get his name and badge number, and note this on your log. You may or may not get a citation if the load is not secured properly, but if you do then it will not be enforceable because you were not given an opportunity to inspect the load.
