Once you break the seal, then YOU are responsible for the contents of the trailer. If the whoever applied the seal took a pallet home in the back of his pickup before he sealed the trailer, and you come up short at the receiver, then they will be looking at you to make up the shortage. If you must do this, I would recommend having the shipper re-seal and sign the BOL with the new seal number to cover yourself.

that only applies to us Flatbedders.....You only need to check your Truck/Trailer everytime you stop. BEFORE 9/11 ANY driver hauling hazmat they had to stop like a flatbedder but since they dont want a Terrorist to know you'll have to stop every 150 miles....
And its not an exact number either if you have to go 3.5 hours to get to the next rest area your not going to get a ticket for that...
your gonna have ALLOT to learn when you get out here, that book with all the "proper" ways to do things and all the "rules" go right out the window. I think you need to find a company with Auto transmissions and E-Logs, i have a feeling you'll be the driver crying you cant do a load because your 15 min short on your hours, when you could easily make 15 min somewhere.

dude.....stop talking! Every post you put up here, with more WRONG info is just makeing you look dumb. FINISH school, go learn how to drive, THEN come and post about things you'll then KNOW. Right now you only know what the book and the failed drivers (truck driver school instructors) are telling you which BTW is usually BS.
You can put a seal on a trailer your self. Do you even know what a seal is???? Its basicly a zip tie! cheap peice of plastic, ya there are metal ones, and bolt seals but if you cut a seal off, you just put another one on. ALSO walstib said AT MY COMPANY, which means at Watkins Shepard, which means THEY ARE THE SHIPPER he can do what he wants, the ONLY reason W/S trailers have seals on them is so that the loaders know what they put in there! He has a pile of W/S seals in his truck exactly like the one he just cut off and no where on the BOL is the seal number....

and you can follow them right to the bank with your $300 paycheck
Like i said, Trucking and the Green Book do not match. I knew a driver like you, he would log the entire time at shippers and receivers on line 4, he'd be lucky to do 1500-2000 miles a week....good luck!

better be careful what seal you cut off and whose seal it is--cut off a customs seal and you might end up with 3 hots and a cot for a while--you kind of learn as you go which seals can be cut and resealed --but definately find out first--cover your ### tho---unless you are a super trucker tho--i have only been in the business 25 yrs and am still a rookie and always will be--dont want to make that super trucker jump

the only seals that should be cut off our your companys seals, any other seals shouldt be touched (by the driver) without permission from your company, i'd even go as far as doing it by QC just so they cant blame it on you when the load is refused. 99% of the Shipper sealed loads i've pulled the receiver couldnt care less about the seal, but every now and then you'll have the one that checks the numbers and wanted to watch you cut it off.
