I have to agree that they had to be drunk. Tho why he got turned around is a mystery. Unless he was trying to make a delivery? Get fuel on the other side??? Mighty strange. Included a aerial of the plaza via google maps.

Now the Southbound exit is... weird... but not difficult if you can read. On the right of your pic, ltd - you see the branch that leads to the Kennebunk exit... if you're in the foremost truck parking you have to hit that T, turn hard left, then turn left back into the rest area on the other side of the building to work your way out to 95-S (or you're going to get crucified in K'bunk).
I'm at a loss. He did go in for 'evaluation'... Whatever that, in all of it's vagueness, suggests.lovesthedrive Thanks this. -
The other possibility (and will impair judgement) is that he was really tired. He may have looked for a spot to stop for his ten. Couldnt find it at the north end, thought he would turn around and use the south end. Probably got on the bypass and his brain wouldnt let him realize where it wanted him to shut down.
Of course any driver will tell anyone willing to listen. Places to park a truck and trailer after 8 pm wont exist! Unless you want to be rude and park in the 4 wheeler area? -
Okay, here's my theory. If I back up to line correctly in a parking spot, then use my Rand McNally GPS to find my next destination, it will often think I was last headed in the direction I was last traveling in reverse. Even in a rest area it will direct me to go northbound on the freeway to get to the next exit and turn around to go southbound.
This might be another case of the idiocy of following GPS instead if using your brain. HOWEVER, the facts that he was driving at night without headlights AND a LEO had to slow in front of him and get rear ended lead me to believe there's more to this story than sheer idiocy.
