That my friends, is the short version of flatbed trucking.

But; if you are old enough to remember, there was a time when a lot of money was made between Wy and Tx.

A load of drilling mud to Tx then a load of drill pipe back to Wy. just as fast and often as you wanted. You had to be trucking in the 60s to remember. (I love memories) Wy. wasn't a bad place to cut teeth back then.

I look from time to time even though we don't run the boards. A few months ago rates seemed higher in the northeast. Jb loads going 250 mi for 1250 and a few other good one's. Did see one a few weeks ago from mass to Montana for 5200 on a skate 47.000

From where to where in the NE? For example I wouldn't consider 1250 to go from Baltimore to New Haven to be a good rate at all. Or any other destination south of NYC to north of NYC within 250 miles of each other.

    Ruthless Thanks this.

I hear ya after the carriers cut my dad gets like 1085 to run a van from Binghamton ny to jersey city like 180 mi. Crossing the gw for a day rate isn't any less than 1500 around here

We are swamped with good paying loads, none of them is off a load board though.
I got called about a 10K flatbed load from east TN to TX (1,000 miles). I couldn't get to it so I called one of my buddies, he priced it for $3 a mile, I added a couple of hundred for my troubles, and the customer accepted the rate.

I have the same issue, I have more high paying freight for my flatbed than I can cover. My van, meh.

    DSK333 and Lepton1 Thank this.

    Thank YOU!!!

    I needed to read this.

I've been raking my brains if I did the right thing accepting a dry van load from Richmond, VA to Newark, NJ for $1100.

I'm using this as my "test run" into NJ (shy of crossing over to NY Islands). Hopefully, I come out unscathed by the turmoil/crazyness of Eastern NY.

    DSK333 Thanks this.

Actually no. The excess freight is why I bought another truck and trailer. Expanding into brokerage in my mind, is really just the next logical expansion. I do not believe in putting all of my financial eggs in a single basket. That's why I own different trailers as well.
In studying market trends I have revised my earlier projections for the 3rd and 4th quarters. I see a lot of money to be made the rest of the year.

    DSK333 Thanks this.
