I still have the original MMR (Measles mumps and ruebella) card from the early 70's But at my age defenses decline.
There will always be people who never have been given shots and thus are infectious for a variety of reasons and in a situation like that you can create a problem with hundreds infecting thousands potentially over time.
German Measles swept the midatlantic during the 60's and created a generation where several hundred would have a defect known as being deaf after birth. Maryland got ahead of that problem by appropriating funds to build a new school both to accommodate the first 64 or so in '73 when it opened in one section of campus and about 200 in the other section known as trainable with much more severe limitations in addition to deafness from that particular outbreak in those days among other problems. These will always require 24/7 care in many cases for life and have none to speak of. (In terms of freedom, individual desires goals, etc)
I think not too long ago there was a hue and cry that immunity should not be given to children or babies over religion or other objectionable beliefs. Whatever opposition it may be. Nature however has a way of making sure that if you do survive being infected, sick and heal with or without damage, you will have immunity.
So which is it? Get your shots? or... get though it at the risk of your own life or that of a child. Or even worse bring back the old lethal killing diseases that were once thought eradicated not too many decades ago.
Considering the conditions over a life time out there on the road, Im pretty amazed that the immunity system was able to function well enough. One symptom of it's working is the occasional fever which takes about a week to break. I usually rode em out inside the sleeper provided the temperature of the body did not break a specific number (103.) in my case.Anything higher your brain and it's automated functions among other things is literally burning up and not supportive of life and there are things hospitals can do to assist if you are that sick.
We actually follow CDC in our State when Arkansas releases a weekly count of people in our ER, walk in clinics, doctors and so on. For example. We had 1.4% of people sick with confirmed flu, a couple of weeks ago. Which is the end of flu season. That came out to about 68 people presenting with flu that week out of all people who seek out care.
We generally use that as a guide because above 2% flu weekly, we do not go out to attend church. There is always a number of people who are actually infectious and coughing inside a church situation for to infect everyone. Those who have immunity against that particular strain will do well, the rest will end up sick. Essentially quarantine is used both as a defense and also to help prevent others from getting potentially lethal illnesses by not going to church during flu season.
In our building flu took one out. Dropped 8 in total about close to half. Out of that 8, 4 developed post illness problems requiring a nursing home support for weeks after and permanent oxygen at night because they were smokers who never quit. Out of that number two still smokes. One because he expects to enter hospice from cancer this year when he decides it's time (A standing order from Hospice has been arranged already, everything has been done that could be done) and the other smokes outside by day. Eventually that will kill him as well.
We have had children in high school in a residential situation turn up sick with measles, and staff and disinfectants etc are brought in pretty promptly. I was held sick away from anyone a week until the test came back for strep A as a example. By then about half turned up sick as well. In Baltimore TB is the killer because many do not see the sunshine that generates vitamins as we should.
Our local hospital uses three devices in it's building each time a patient is discharged, as dead or sent home or to another facility. When these devices are brought into a room where they were using a variety of technology after a time there is nothing left alive anywhere in that room on any surface theoretically able to infect the next patient admitted there.
CDC outbreaks
Disease of the Week - Measles
CDC current 2018 outbreaks, the second link begins with about 63 people from Jan 1 to Apr 21 count stands at 64 infected measles people people from Arkansas and 15 other states in the area presenting this year already. Essentially all 64 never had been given shots.
Air traffic coming into the USA every day and night (Thousands every 24 hours) continue to bring in unvaccinated people who are already infectious as one source.
Measles | Cases and Outbreaks | CDC
CDC provides weekly counts in every part of the USA for everything you can think of.
If you want to really get crazy, consider the following.
Fort Detrick in Frederick Maryland NW section of the city. has a underground level IV lab meaning they deal with seriously lethal biohazard for both wartime purposes and for research into the likes of the old Black Plague from the 1400's roughly in Europe where one in three were dead outright and half the rest were too sick to bury them. That particular problem came very close to extinguishing everyone and everything at that time. But burned out for lackof new people to infect. Imagine if such a thing was ongoing now with air travel etc bring them all over the world today. That's one of the main problems people consider to protect our country there.
After world war one, spanish flu killed approx 20 million. More than the entire war did Globally. If you go back to American Newspapers of the time period you will see people essentially kept in boxes with a bed inside while waiting to see if they were to live or die. Baltimore used to keep everyone immigrating to America (We were number two or three behind Ellis Island) from either Bremen or Italy, these people from roughly the 1870's through to about 1930 or so were held in a facility on the Chesapeake bay for about three months. They were taken care of very well, with foods and language they understood and were used to while it was made sure they were healthy and transition to becoming American citizens. In those days if you had someone sick in your home you put up either a Red Panel or flag for measles within or flew a yellow for quarantine. That meant none will approach your home, ship etc until it's over and the flag removed.
Most people will say this post is way too much. That's fine. There is something for anyone with sufficient interest in this topic.mjd4277 Thanks this.
