This is a good reason for closing the hwy.

It looked like that yesterday when I came across. There were spots with near 0 visibility.

Just came from Kemmerer over South Pass to Muddy Gap. Nothing but blue skies and clear roads. One quick drop in Speas, and then off to Lusk.

6 trucks blown over around Lusk this morning.....

Just those miles make such a difference in the wind and blowing snow.

It's hell on for fuel mileage too. I averaged 5.3 fighting the wind

We are running from Soda Springs to Lusk. The miles are actually lower running on the 2-lanes, less wind (by far) than i-80, and fewer newbie snow idiots.

Sage Junction scale told us South Pass was "not advised", but roads were mostly clean and dry. Dropping at the State Hatchery in Speas, and off we go again.

South Pass isn't as bad since they straightened it over the top.

If they would've built 80 where 30 is it wouldn't be near as bad. Clearly they didn't survey their route in the winter.

They did, but going the route they did was "cheaper". There's been much talk about it over the years, documentaries and everything about the routing 80 took in Wyoming.

Just got home, the amount of trucks parked is crazy. Truck stops full, chaos for sure. Glad you guys are safe.

Glad I made it home when I did. Wife is making turkey noodle soup and home made rolls. Life is good.

I used to run from Evanston to Brighton, CO three trips a week. When I was doing that I would listen to the police scanner and have about a twenty minute heads up when the road was going to open. Timed right, I could go through the gate as soon as they opened it to get ahead of the highway patrol's rolling roadblock.

I never liked being trapped in the convoy, it's like walking among spooked cattle. I always thought it best to get ahead of it or let the burst of trucks go and then get behind them about an hour hoping none of them wreck bad enough to reclose the road.
