I don't have too much to add other than if you are looking for fuel economy, steer way clear of that 389. Any aero truck will do better, all things being equal.

Also, when I look at the fuel gauges section of the Rutherford site, Cummins don't seem to do as well overall. Now maybe that's because Detroit/Freightliner customers spec for economy. I don't know.

I want the classic body, I have had aero trucks.
I'm looking to make the best possible out of a bad fuel economy situation , no aerodynamics.

There is a wide range in economy with classics from 5-7 mpg depending on motors , trans, gearing.

We know the old S60 Detroit's could get 6.8-7.2 in a older Pete if driven right.

The new motors are efficient if operated , specd correctly. Traditional gearing does not work well with a modern motor..

It's your company. But fyi I have a friend who regularly averages 9.7+ with a Cascadia. (Operating in pretty optimal conditions I might add).

    We're ordering a new 389. I wanted a glider with a c15 but it cost almost $25,000 over a 389 with x15 performance engine. I think I'm gonna take my chances with the x15 for a $25,000 savings.
Only thing I'm worried about is I don't run but 10-20,000 miles a year and the truck will sit in my shop for long periods with out being driven and worry about the emissions equipment and def sitting.

I basically have the similar situation the money they wanted for the glider was completely absurd...

I went ahead and ordered my new 389 with 565/2050 x15 from peterbilt Steve in OK. He killed my local Fitzgerald dealer by 12k on same truck. So a glider from Fitzgerald with cat was gonna be 37K more than the new truck I ordered from Steve. That’s just ridiculous.

    KB3MMX and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.

DEF naturally rots , keep minimal levels needed to operate and if it sits more than a couple months, drain it.

    That's awesome!!!

You can't beat Peterbilt Steve's trucks..... I guarantee you it will be way way better than a Fitzgerald !!

    Nice!!

Did you do the normal 3.36 Rears?

I'm about finished with the spec on mine decided on the 500 horsepower 1850 lb torque with a 18 speed(2k lb-ft rating) 2.85 mt40 rear end , and Canadian spread for a different look....
Peak torque on the efficiency series is at 1000 RPM, truck will Cruise 1200 RPM at 68 miles per hour, similar to my XE Volvo but with slightly more power.

    Dave_in_AZ Thanks this.
