I have a Cummins x15 economy. Two cam lobes are bad and of course, 2 rocker arms. Manufacturing date on engine is 04/2017. Engine has 645xxx miles. I’ve owned for 100k of those. Kenworth is stating engine rebuild, but for a cam failure? The cam isn’t that bad so can’t see rebuilding the engine. In a mechanics point of view, what else should be changed to run this engine? Can’t help but think the dealer is trying the leach me.

That’s because you’ll be really mad when it starts pushing coolant due to a dropped liner 2 months after you put a cam in it.
Are the front a rear housings leaking yet?
You already know it hasn’t had regular maintenance with the worn camshaft.LoneRanger, lester, D.Tibbitt and 3 others Thank this. -

What were your symptoms that led to finding a bad cam?

I usually blame those failures due to lack of valve adjustments. I have a ISX 15 and run through the adjustments yearly regardless of mileage. Just my .02
D.Tibbitt and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
NWAF and Diesel Dave Thank this.

Where did all this cam material go? What did it pass through on it’s way?
