Seems odd to combine companies and still require different equipment depending on which service you are a subscriber to... I looked all around their web site and could find listings for the two services but not one that said the differences in the channels offered. Guess one could print them out separately and look through the list to see which has what but seems more complex than needed.
I know different tech is used in the two former companies and they just can't change what's already flying around up there and they are using two different kinds of orbits too. Other than the concept of radio via satellite the two companies are very different. -
Another thing that bites my A...., I'm thinking that the trucking community is a fairly big subscriber base and yet we don't have a weather channel, they done away with it awhile ago. We have traffic and weather in select cities which is ok I guess but there I was coming out of Houston during the flooding between Dallas and Houston trying to hear what roads were closed and such and lo and behold on comes the football game, absolutely garbage. Called Sirius and might as well spit into the wind, they couldn't have cared less. Oh, but they did ask if I needed to update my package to get MLB. Seriously?

The internet. It's a powerful tool. When all else fails, stop, fire up the laptop and hotspot and figure it out, make a plan, and get 'er done.

Hey OP, your a rookie that plans to use his iPad for navigation? Using Apple maps or google maps will only get you in trouble and end your career quickly. Get a dedicated TRUCK gps so we don't hear and see you on the news trying to go over a wooden bridge. I use g maps for final mile or scoping out delivery sites i.e. Nighttime parking and such, but routing is not truck friendly.
As far as xm, I don't think there is any substitute for having built in xm. One less electronic to clutter everything up with. I'm on my second Alpine head unit in 12 years. I also have it built in to my wife's my Pathfinder. My new Tacoma has it built in, but I will end it after the free trial and just use the app as it's cheaper per month and I only average less than 600 miles a month in my vehicle. It will also allow me to have xm in the house that way as well. BTW, f Sirius. -
I am now on my third cradle for my Onyx Plus. Let's see how long this one lasts. Pieces of garbage.

Sometimes you're just better off buying a "universal" am/fm/satellite radio and swap it out for the factory radio and run the antenna in behind the dash to the new radio. On some trucks, this is easy enough. When you leave or get another truck, put the original radio back in.
These radios can be found at select truck stops for around $200 IIRC. But be aware, there are radios with the tuner included (integrated) inside the radio, and there are radios that require a separate "module" be left to rattle around behind the radio. I don't care for the separate module type setups.
