Find a local job, but you`ll have to start at the bottom, A bottom feeder they will call you.
BUT, IF you wait your time out, and hang in there, You will be home every night, no weekends and have money for a retirement. Good things take time. Good Luck.

Don't know about Florida, but here it's all over the place...from $12 to $18 per hour. Our wages are a little higher here than in the US, but I'd expect the same kind of differences.

If local driving jobs are scarce wouldn't yard jockey positions likely be scarce too.

I have no facts but based on other jobs, I would guess $10 - $21 per hour in my area.

The money and tolerable work load are in OTR.

My research has indicated that you need to stick with for 6 to 12 months. You are close to Orlando and Tampa, lots of freight in and out via local companies who will require some experience. OTR for many is probably the trucker's version of boot camp.

I would suggest Target DC but the one in Florida uses a third party company. I did look up the job base pay awhile back on the yard jockey position, said the base pay was $17.00 to $26.80. All the warehouses positions are filled though and not that easy to get into. Never hurts to put in a application.

Idea pay should be around $16.00 -$20.00 hr but knowing Florida that's not going to happen.I seen guys doing local gigs driving 53" only getting $12-$13 an hr!:biggrin_25510:

being that said, stay away from the temp service, they are a rip off!

Sounds like there isn't a easy answer. But thanks everyone for the answers. Hopefully I can manage to stick out otr to get a local trucking job but Idk. Maybe it will be better when I'm not stuck with a trainer.
