Are you sure? I can double check my truck but l know the plug was that style. My cord was green but the end of the new plug was yellow.
MJ1657 Thanks this. -
Green cord should run everything as far as lights and abs.
I have not been around trucks and trailers for a whole lot of years so I could possibly be wrong with older trailers. Someone here with more knowledge will respond.Highway Sailor, snowman_w900 and johndeere4020 Thank this. -
My truck is a 2000. Back then some trailers needed the extra light cord and some didnt. Iirc it was something to do with having a warning light. I know this was the first trailer that actually needed the second light cord hooked up for everthing to work properly. I pulled s 6 axle trailer for years so the cord was actually used for the 3 lift axles on separate switches. We used a conventional trailer plug and socket. Thata why l had to change the truck plug to match the trailers.

You could just change the auxiliary pigtail plug end. That's all the difference is in the cords. One of my older trailers the aux was same regular green cord.. If I hooked up it would do all kind of weird things with the wrong plugs in. Different cord colors/ non interchangeable ends just prevents confusion when hooking up.Last edited: Nov 18, 2016

And no, abs doesn't run thru the aux. Abs runs off the center pin or secondarily thru the brake light circuit.

That's what i did for the last trailer. Without the aux cord plugged in it wouldn't do the diagnostic step where the abs light flashes on the trailer and you hear the sensors click for a second. Then the light goes out and its supposed to be all good. That was a 2010ish east 5 axle spif flat.

If the aux controlled the abs, every trailer you see would have an aux cord..
I can't speak to what's up with your abs. I have a non abs tractor, have pulled lots of abs trailers, and currently own several abs trailers. No aux plug for any of them.spyder7723 Thanks this. -
No big deal anyways. Maybe its a canadian thing lol. Most trucks up here ive seen are plumbed for a second light cord. And most trailers have the receptacle there also. I can only speak for myself ☺ Ive pulled trailers where they picked up abs power off the brake light also. And used the lift axle switch to power them too. Anyways enough going round in circles for me lol

Dump valves, lift axles, auxiliary lights, taillight wipers, horns, sliders.............. There are MANY things run through those extra lines but power for the ABS I've never seen or heard of. If the center pin on the main pigtail is not hot the ABS will not function and cause the yellow warning light on the side of the trailer to illuminate whenever the brake lights are on. If the truck is ABS equipped it's "supposed" to power the center pin for this purpose as well as send data back and forth through that same circuit (how do you think PeopleNet knows what trailer your hooked to? it reads the serial number of the ABS system and provided your company has correctly set up the data translates that to a trailer number) which is what causes the trailer ABS light to illuminate on the dash when there's a fault in the ABS system.
Now you can wire YOUR truck and trailer any way you want however wiring anything outside of industry standards is fine as long as you never break down and have to hook up a different tractor or your trailer breaks down and you have to pull a different one. Nothing is worse than trying to sort out a pig-tail at 2:00am when it's blowing 30 at 20 below in the snow because that's when you will have a problem, not when it's the middle of a sunny and 70 degree day.brian991219, Oxbow, Chewy352 and 1 other person Thank this.
