Using your reasoning, it's safe to say that it is legal for me to drive my truck 100 mph. If it were not, it wouldn't have a factory speedometer that went that high. Correct?
The Great Dane owners manual (2015) only talks about dump valves being used while docked or parked for extended periods with a load on.
Most trailer tires have a load limit of 5675 lbs. Or 22,700 lbs per axle. And the majority of axles are 20,000 lb. You dump air on a trailer with nearly 40k on the back while you're on a public road and you're overweight. I don't care where you are in the USA. -
You're mixing a dump valve on a single axle vs a manual dump valve on both axles-
A manual dump is what you'd use when docking or parking for extended periods of time.
You can choose not to dump air out of one axles suspension to keep legal weight on both axles. I haven't ran a dump for years. It does shorten life span of tires thoRustyBolt, spyder7723 and MJ1657 Thank this. -
I didn't mix them up. Was just pointing out that GD doesn't mention anything BUT that dump valve. No where in my manual do they even mention the single axle dump.
I use mine too. Does that make it legal on a public road? Not at all. -
That's laziness on the part of some linehaul drivers. What they do is back the dolly under the rear with the landing gear left low so the dolly will raise it, and then drag the trailer a few feet away from the dock.
-
I see the same thing with any drop and hook company. Their idea of a tug test is to drag the trailer over ten feet as it hops up and down.
-
They just want to warm up the tires a bit with the friction.
-
...And don't feel like making that extra trip from the cab to the dolly to connect the air lines BEFORE pulling out.spyder7723 Thanks this.
-
Yep. Pure lazy. If i saw one of my drivers do that i would fire him on the spot. I don't have a sense of humor about a guy costing me thousands of dollars.

You wouldn't at an ltl company like that.4mer trucker Thanks this.
