So UPS does not ship stuff that needs to be on time? You are clearly missing the issue a shipper will be going through.

    I think you're wrong and here's why I think you're wrong........
They do and can cross over.......instead of shipping 10 packages to the same customer every day, they say, "Look, we have a UPS problem." Consignee understands because he's not stupid. Shipper says, "Look instead of 10 every day, we'll do 20 every other day on a pallet. Inside delivery."
LTL company says, "Sure, we'll do 20 packages inside delivery, no problem. But it's gonna cost THIS." Shipper says, sure.
Well those 20 package inside delivery will tend to clog the system up somewhat.
But, the guy shipping out 3 or 4 pallets at a time will now have a dilemma......LTL won't pick his stuff up because they're at capacity with formerly UPS stuff. So, he negotiates a stop off run.
Then, the truckload folks now have a lucrative stop off run, and they aren't interested in a single stop. Truckload boys get the gravy.
    It all pushes........

I know this makes sense in y’all’s mind....and understand Why you feel this way.....
After 47 years on the reefer side of the ltl business....I kinda have a clue how this worx....
There isn’t a shipper on the planet that sends more than one or two parcel/pkgs with Buster Brown
Even if they have a 53’ spotted there.... It’s just 2 expensive....Those shipments go with either a ltl freight company or 2-5 stops with a mega
Let’s also not forget UPSs size weight dimension restrictions
And I know it’s a long time ago for some of y’all....but the last UPS strike was 97.... it lasted bout 14 days and a shift...Customers were goin #######...Federal Labor mediators kept both sides at the table in a 96 hour debilitating bargaining session
UPS had already recorded 1/2 billion plus in loses...the union got all the wanted and more....and not ONE carrier considered crossing their picket lines

I am pretty sure reefer would have no effect at all in ups operation. So you're comparing something that has nothing to do with dry freight. I am sure in my little 4 years out on my own I can debunk your situation on saying no one will pay for what they need. I have had several partial loads become a full load pay since it had to be on time delivered. Not all freight is the same like you are trying to make it out to be. Not every shipper is the same just like not all packages need to arrive on a time line.

If you’ve spent anytime doin actual ltl...Thousands of shippers ship dry& temp control out of same facility
We kinda get to know each other
And no of course ups will not effect temp control one bit
There’s really no point let’s just wait and see

And people wonder why he isn’t giving in.
This is always the case, take from the worker but management gets raises, bonuses and extra stock options!

I also shipped out many truckloads and LTL from the factory I ran. I can tell you from my experience as a shipper we paid full truck loads when we had 4 pallets to make sure it got to the location on time. Again it all depends on the freight itself not whom handles it.
