Yet another CRST MALONE question :)

How do some o/o's get home every day?

-They have customers

-They have their equipment paid off

-They worked years to get to that point

 

Bulk hauling is one way. Tanks or dump. It's a hard way but it can be done. Might want to check out carriers in your area.

 

Comtrack is an intermodal company,which would work for you if you had rail facilities close to your home. All their loads are out and back, in and out of the rails. I live outside of Chicago, which is the largest rail hub in the U.S.,lots of "home every night" intermodal work. You won't get rich, and the long lines at the rails can work on your patience,but it sounds pretty close to what your looking for. Comtrack also offers a third party "lease purchase" option, check with them, see what they say. I too am looking into CRST Malone, wondering if I can get home once a week, or thru the house in the middle of the week. I sold my 379EH in 2009 when the economy took a dump, became a local company driver for SAIA, runnin LTL, home every night. I just can't get used to someone else controlling how much money I make, by cutting my hours to make the "companies" numbers look better, dressing you up like a cubscout and driving a different truck everyday. You probably won"t make a ton more money as an OO, but at least you have some kind of control over what you do. Make sure you have plenty of OO friends that you trust to answer your questions. ( lots you don't know yet ) Good Luck!

 

A short run to me might pay $600 wich is ok...but it will only pay you $450 (after Malone 25%)

Malone has a 50 page list of brokers you CANNOT work with for various reasons = limited freight in certain areas

I'm not going to talk bad about l/p but do yourself a favor and plan to dedicate yourself to more of a OTR/regional plan for a couple of years then worry about being home, that gives you the freedom to learn the biz without worrying about "hometime"
