1,600 "profit" or after fuel? There is a huge difference. I'd be ticked off if I turned more than 1,500 miles to generate 3,800 gross revenue. Most weeks it's 4k plus on a 1,500 odometer miles week 35 percent of those being empty miles paid at zero cpm. Pick whatever loads I want and regular hometime. But if you need a dispatcher to keep your truck rolling I guess 2,500 miles and 3,800 revenue is ok, must suck having a rent payment coming out though.

The company leases the truck from a dealer then shovels off all the operating cost on a driver in a sub lease. Very rare for this contracted driver to have any say in what shop works on the truck or even changes the oil. It's a company shop or a dealer. If it is due an oil change it will go to the nearest TA if it cant get to the company shop or the drivers fuel card will get turned off and they wont be dispatched. Lease purchase drivers mostly operate under the same force dispatch as company drivers. If you are LP and get the attitude your dispatcher is a travel agent and you go where you please they will starve you out. LP is extra capacity low cost no company benefits cheap labor that gets force dispatched to cover customer needs same as a company truck.

Hi, I stand corrected, I was kind of brain dead last night when I wrote that post, my prepass is $5/wk, and now that you mention it, qualcomm is $20/wk.

I use ATBS, they seem ok to me. It can be hit or miss with accountants. I checked out a company where I live, that also handles a large mega carrier, and I wasn't impressed at all with them, and they offered less services and charged more for it than ATBS. I also talked to a couple individuals, and its a question mark if they really know what they are doing, ????

From your post, that sounds like a really bad company to lease with. There are better options out here, I am sure you know. But that was my point in my first post. Every one of us is in a different situation. Ya know? There is no blanket statement that can describe everyone or us all.

Doubled what kind of pay? Doubling a junk paycheck may well still be a junk paycheck huh?
Sorry, I still dont see it myself. Maybe used to pulling OD on a % contract?
And the $1600 and change for a week, for those miles, is nothing to brag about IMHO.
To each their own obviously, but it certainly is not for me. I can make way over $1k a week in a company truck, so why would I risk a blown tire etc making me make less money?
I could never understand why a guy/gal would lease company equipment. If you want a truck, go buy a truck from a dealer etc. I couldn't sleep at night knowing that the company I was leased to had that much control over me. Hell, I even priced up my 97k lbs plates from my home state to compare the prices, as well as insurance etc. Had it been cheaper by a single penny, I would have not even had the companies tags on my rig!
OWNER operator is just that to me, I OWN the truck, not the company I get loads from.

    he aint doing bad

he is running at about $1.49/mi and he is getting 8mpg, that means his fuel is about 50cpm (mine is around 65cpm) and after all of his payments he is making $1600

not shabby, and it seems to be working for him

i ran with the megas and made money until they wanted me to do elogs, so it is possible to make money with leasing

its not easy and depends on the driver and his dispatcher

Everyone one of us is different, we are all in different situations. I'll be honest with you and your free to 'bash' me it you like. but if I only made a $1. at the end of a week, I still wouldn't mind if all my bills get paid. Because I am am buying, do own this truck.

Because I figure I would just make it back and the next check, or whenever, the money will always be there.

I actually work less, and get paid more for it.

I have so much freedom I never had as a company driver, its unreal. I can go where I want, do what I want and I am treated with more respect than I ever used to receive before. Now mind you, the company I drive for treats everyone with respect and are very friendly and helpful, but its different being a O/O, than a company driver now.

    One last thing.

    JUNK PAY?

I was making over $1000/wk 15 yrs ago. Trucking pay now is almost as bad if not worst than it was then.

But this is a whole different thread isn't it?

You wont be getting bashed from me mate.
If it works for you, that is great.
It just wouldn't work for me is all, as in the last 20+yrs, I know what I am capable of making money wise, and how to make it.
I have always bought my own truck, and put it where I wanted to put it. The company has nothing to say about it.
For some, the added control is a big deal. For others, it may be being able to take a pet along. And for folks like me, it's about the $$$ at the end of the year.
My average this year has been @$2.40 a mile to the truck. My fuel has been @.65 cents a mile. Truck is paid for, And I have the same deductions as most so far as Q/comm, Prepass, etc. No trailer "rental", od permits, escorts etc paid by me.
So far this yer, I have taken @3 months off, and will eb home for another couple of weeks at X mas.
That is what I am comparing this lease deal to, my own experiences over the past years of being an owner operator.
Granted, after all these years I probably would not do good in a company truck. But if I could make more $$ doing it, this old Freightshaker would be an ornament in the driveway!
