Here's a hi-tech solution.. Go to the intersection just before the low bridge. Have the stoplight activated by a height sensor. The sensor would need to be a proper distance before the intersection to allow for safe stopping. If the bridge is 12' anything taller than 12' gets a red light. Then a message board lights up and reads.. "You too tall dummy", please turn right or left.

Now one a little better, using the above, instead of an intersection, just have a parking lot built off the street, the stoplight is at the entrance. They're stopped and routed into the parking lot. No other way out, one-way in. They must park and learn how to read signs, and how to determine the height of their rigs.

Sad thing is nothing will change with the warning at this low clearance. It was raining hard and dark so can't blame the driver on this one. There are too many area's that drivers have to go to whether it be for loading/unloading or drop/hook that have low clearance and not very good warning signs to stop this before it happens. Daylight I completely agree that a driver should know whether they can fit or not but during dark and raining so hard well your not going to see a little sign.

I'm guessing federal regs don't require the bridge to be labeled ON the bridge when it's a rail overpass?

Don't jump on me, I see both sides of this, but in the dark, in heavy rain, that dark bridge isn't going to show up well at all.

I think I will try that "Officer it was dark and raining I didnt see that 35MPH sign or that little old lady crossing the road. I thought I was in Texas in a 75MPH speed zone and figured I hit a armadillo. Ok driver you're free to go"

    Yea Right They Who
