I saw a safe Swift driver yesterday. He was good too.

It took a lot of skill for him to turn that thing around in the "associate" parking lot of Searcy, AR Wal-Mart DC.

But I do believe it would have been much easier, to do it at the truck entrance. :biggrin_25525:

Credibility on any forum is a matter of perception. Just because someone puts 15 years of experience does not mean it is true. Or that they are even correct. Most statements are opinion over fact. Yes my profile says 0-1 year of experience because that is what I have as a professional driver. I am a 3rd generation driver and my father drove for 37 years and owned a small fleet for over 20 years. I am familiar with the industry as a whole and have watched it change. Not all of it for the better, but mostly. But I am new to the road and I am always wanting to learn. Hence my reason for being here. My only advice to others on here is to filter all of the "advice" you are given and do some research about your particular situation. And do not listen to a recruiter :biggrin_25513:. Just messing with the recruiters. Just use a finer filter for the information you receive from ANY company rep.

Problem is....Many here are the "I'm-friends-with-my-cousin's-neghbor-whose-sister-in-law's-second cousin's-brother-drove-a-truck-for-three weeks-when-he-was-in-the Army-back-in-'Nam...." type and count that as "Experience"....

That is awesome. But sadly it is also true. And sometimes regardless of how long someone has been in a particular industry.... Are you ready for this????? Their interpretation of a given subject has resulted in an answer that is wrong. I know, crazy idea that we are not right 100% of the time about every aspect of the industry including where you should work. And I am sure that I will get lit up by some on here because they have never done anything that was not perfect throughout their driving career and every opinion they have is absolutely carved in stone factual. And to them I will just say :biggrin_25514:

My answer to you is "Just Do it"....

The "Rule of 10,000 Hours" applies to just about everyone....

Speaking of facts, opinions, and statements.

I spent 3 days in hell last weekend, with a driver who's husband was a "Federal DOT Officer", she claimed.

She claimed 30 years experience herself.

However, she did not know where the old I-71 scales were. Had never been across those scales. Didn't know there were any scales at any time on the north bound side of 71 between Louisville and Cincinnati. aka I was full of ####.

She also advised me that NO driver could run a split sleeper, without restarting everything with a 10 hour break....per Federal law. Her words not mine.

She told me it was against the law, for law enforcement to do a "roadside" inspection. Like I'm gonna argue with a guy that has a gun.

She also took the time to let me know how stupid I was for paying just under $600 for full coverage on 2 (two) cars, since she only paid $375 for one.

And BTW, her husband (the fed DOT officer) told her that the higher your CSA score was. The better.

Moral of this lesson: Always wear your hip waders when speaking with other drivers and have a nice parking spot as far away from the dumb #### as possible.

    Well, duh!
O/O's usually have more experience. Where do new drivers start?
    COMPANY DRIVERS! Hello!

Just as an FYI, I am constantly surprised by how my students fail to read signs. I probably harp on that one item more than any other. I don't know how they have functioned up to this point, but it's simply amazing!

There is NO excuse for this driver. The sign exists and anybody that's been driving more than 30 days had better be able to judge a height question....at least to the point where you check it out with something other than your trailer!

Oh yes, the "scale house lawyers". I've run into a few of those myself. Amusing aren't they ? Usually they are parked at Banning for a day or two. Why "3 days of hell" though ? I usually just shake my head and move on rather quickly.
