You are correct sir. I've had my share of "what was I thinking" moments myself. I'm lucky in that besides 3 years of OTR, I've actually been driving big trucks for a long time. I've pulled logs, beer, cotton, tractors, combines, grain, gas and diesel, and just about everything else Inbetween. I've been real lucky not to have had more uh-oh moments than I have.

The biggest part of actually driving a truck, in my opinion, is the confidence part of it. You have to remember that nobody is asking you to do something with a truck that a million others before you haven't already done before you. If you "think" you can do it, then you probably can. It's kind of like a mean dog. Once he senses fear, he's gonna come after you. Once that truck senses fear, it's going to get you everytime. It's all in your head is what I'm saying. If you can get in there forwards, then you sure as hell can get in there backwards. Get out and look a hundred times if you need to. Don't let boneheads ruin your day if it takes you longer to get it done. If these same boneheads tell you they haven't been embarrassed by doing something stupid, then I'm here to tell you hey are flat-out lying to you. Something I've said before is that it's like trying to nail the pretty girl in high school. Once you start doing it, you're not very good at it. But you actually like it, so you keep on trying to get better at it. Once you've done it a bunch of times, not only do you like it, but you've gotten to be pretty good at it. Driving these trucks are the same thing.

With that in mind, I don't want to be a rock star at the truck-stop, I'd rather be a porn-star because my truck is bigger than everybody else's.

i knew there was a reason why I like to be naked more than most.

I get your point, Jakaby, and I agree. Nothing worse than being mind funked by an 80,000 pound vehicle at this stage in the game. I have a lot to work on, and as always you open my eyes to a whole new way of lookin at ####. Thanks again.

The good news about this profession is that you will have a lot of time to work on getting better. Just don't sweat the small stuff. You'll catch on.

I'm out with my mentor now, and we're shut down in some dirt lot about an hour and a half from Denver. The state shut I70 down between Denver and the Kansas line, so we're just waiting it out here. Hopefully they'll open it back up soon though. We've got a delivery to make just outside of Denver tomorrow morning. I hope school's still going well for you Shamrock. Get this last week done, get your license, and get out with a mentor. It's a hell of a lot more fun out here on the road than it is driving around in circles on the range at the terminal!

Good to hear your training is going well Shamrock.

So is Richmond going to be your home terminal? I'm thinking of changing my home terminal to Richmond within the next year. If so we will probably be bumping into each other at some point. It seems impossible for people out there to bump into each other but it is not. A couple of weeks ago two buddies of mine from training bumped into each other (not literally) at the Iowa 80 truckstop. Then a few days back I was sitting at the smoking pavilion outside the Denver terminal and I bumped into my original mentor whom I hadn't seen in almost 2 weeks. He walked up to me completely surprising me.

Keep up the good work and positive attitude.
