Yet another SWR issue with a Cobra 29 LX

You might get better results by moving to a stake-hole farther back. The metal cab might be causing some reflection.

Also, you might need to use a copper strap or two to make sure the truck bed is grounded to the frame for good RF results.

 

Looks like your antenna is grounded out either to the box or to close to the cab.

 

Read this very carefully.

Stop what you are doing, don't do a thing with it.

Find someone with an antenna analyzer who can properly set up the antenna for you.

As I read in another thread, many of you are missing a couple important points,

The antenna causes you to get out or not get out.

The antenna is matched to the coax which has nothing to do with the radio.

Any radio on the other end of the coax will not change the swr.

 

When it shows S/RF you are in normal transmit mode and when you key the mic the the meter mives up on the RF scale, that is your carrier/ Deadkey that is normal, I dont see the SWR problem.

 

From what I am seeing in your two videos everything looks normal and good with your setup, and after you key up and meter moves ( carrier) if you talk into the mic it should swing forward a bit. If you sometimes see the word "antenna warning" when you transmit , ignore it, its got to do with an internal setting adjustment, most the 29's do it. If your radio check is good and the swr check is good it should be good, however it may be a good idea to buy a seperate swr meter and not rely solely on the built in meter.

 

Once again after viewing one more time , you are saying swr is high but you keying mic in S/RF mode, you cant check swr when in that mode, the meter is moving to the appropriate mark( that little line on the RF scale) when you key the mic in S/RF mode, that is your deadkey/ carrier and is completely normal, and your swr appears to be about a 1.2 which is very good.

 

It looks as though your swr maybe ok, but your supposed to calibrate first before doing a swr check. On mine my Cal changes on ch 1 and 40 slightly. A bad swr stays high the whole time you transmitted like my old cobra 19 dx III, what size antenna, are you running
