Gordon and Knight. Have you contacted any recruiters yet? Gotten your CDL learner's permit (which allows you to drive with a CDL-holder)? The trainers I encountered at Gordon were mostly top-notch.

Earlier I recommended get your 'B' first via bus company or school district. But Gordon would be a great choice for you. Check out double yellow's threads, the school he went to in Redding, his experience at Covenant (which I would not recommend). He's with Con-way T/L now and participates on Con-way threads, among others. double yellow would make a good role model for you, too.

He likes Gordon. Gives me a hard time when I am critical of OTR, Gordon (which is often) and recently Con-way T/L.

Taking a long look at Holland and System Transport right now. I'm thinking that I'm healthy enough and in good enough shape to consider flatbed and/or tanker/hazmat. What other quality companies run out on the west coast that I should consider? (looked at Melton, Millis and Maverick, but none of them seem to run out west).

Have a buddy I've known since 4th grade, but lost touch with for awhile, that's been on the road for 10 years now and is currently an O/O. Hoping to have lunch with him sometime in the next few weeks so I can pick his brain. :yes2557:

Talked to Holland today. They were incredibly nice and responsive, and also let me know that they won't hire with less than 2 years of experience.

Also looking at finances, and considering everything, I'm now looking at the idea of going to Prime for a year. Training paid for, not the worst company to start with, and they pay well for a starter/mega.

Not sure I'm in love with the idea of learning to drive in the middle of winter, but I've spent a lot of my life going up and down Donner in the winter (in much smaller vehicles of course) so maybe it won't be so bad...
