If this semi truck deal falls through i'm going to apply for maverick, at least then i can put some more money aside than i'm making now for a hefty down payment on my own truck.
Saw the coolest thing yesterday, I really want to haul military freight.. I've heard of 'ghost trucks' and things of that nature, but never in my life have i seen state police literally moving people off the interstate to escort a black/black peterbilt with limo Tinted windows (no ICC/DOT num, no company name, nothing, completely plain truck) pulling a step deck with some kind of tarped crate on it.. I was doing 75 on the interestate and the bear travelling in front of the truck was behind me when i looked in the mirror, lights and sirens blazing!
Everyone pulled off the road and another squad car, and then this unidentified semi ran by us hauling ### with another squad car following behind him.. The truck had more amber lights than you could shake a stick at.. I tried to get a picture of the back but my phone was at 20% battery and it wouldn't let me open the camera..
Anyway when the truck went by there was a wooden sign hanging on the back of the load that said "Property of US Gov. Vehicle WILL NOT stop."
I got friggin' goosebumps!! I want that job!!! Something tells me ill need about 30 more years under my belt first =P
Yet more changes!!

Anyway, I never followed or even looked at their routing until recently when I was told I was 0% compliant on the fuel stops and they wanted to start getting everyone compliant. If I find a shorter route toll or no toll I run it and expect them to pay the toll...Reason being when they figure the loaded miles (which are always less than practical miles, another bs deal) they don't take into account for the TMC restricted roads like the ohio and indiana turnpike which makes your oor go up and mpg go down to stay off these roads. So until they want to go practical miles and take into account the restricted roads I try to run the faster/shortest route possible..And yes , even if its on the rape job of the PA Turnpike from one side to the other loaded for a whopping $185, I take it.....Now thats highway robbery.... -

TMC feels there are other routes that run along with them that are not toll roads like US30 in Ohio and Indiana. You can get the ok to run them if you have a time sensitive delivery the next day but otherwise they want you to take alternate routes. The NJ Turnpike from 1-7 exits is another Restricted route, they figure you can run I295 instead. This I do all the time being I run the NorthEast but don't mind as much being its still an Interstate but it is a little longer as far as oor miles go but not too bad. -
I've gone round, and round with them on this issue. By the time you factor in all the extra fuel and wear and tear on the brakes, engine, etc. from the stop and go by cutting across state roads they aren't saving a dime..
But, those accountants are too smart for us, we can't tell them nothing. My FM was great with it, though, he'd give me auth numbers to run it pretty much whenever i wanted.. I'd just make up a silly excuse... He knew what i was doing, and laughed about it, always hooked me up though.. Good kid, i still miss working with him.. He's the only thing that kept me there for as long as I was to be honest. -
