When you shake it, watch the shaft the yoke is on. If the shaft moves, might be a bearing problem. Usually if bearing problem, seal will go out and will leak oil. Quite often, all you need to do is tighten the big nut that holds the yoke on. Have to drop the drive shaft to do that.About half hour to tighten nut. If it is loose you probably had a vibration when coasting along.

What he said, and if you do it yourself you need at least a 3/4 impact with good air supply.

Needs serious torque.
If I recall, the yoke on the differential was to be torqued at around 750 ft lbs..... -
Just had the same thing, thought it was a worn bearing, had the shop pull the back off the trans and send it in. Part of it was a previous shop had not gotten the yoke on as tight as it should have been, and the threads were stripped. The other problem was that a ring on the front side of the output shaft had come loose, allowing the shaft to sort of float. So, you may be lucky in only having to tighten the nut, or you may need to go inside the back of the trans, possible replacing the bearing. Is your syncro grinding at all when you come into low range? If so, that is the time to address that too.

Some times the nut can back off from all the strain and torque on the yoke and just need to be tightened. It is a very high torque near 800 ft lbs. You might want to have the nut replaced because it is a self locking fine thread nut.
