Lol!! When I was younger, I did that with a can of Beanie Weenies down in the coal fields of southern WV. Drilling rig had a 6V92T as a deck engine at that time. We later put a 6V-71 on it that had a fresh rebuild. I put that can up on the exhaust without a steam hole, it was a learning experience for sure. After it exploded my options for food was bananas and potato chips. As my uncle Lester use to say, that’ll break ya from sucking eggs…..:)

This is the rig with the replacement engine.

I kinda miss those rigs sometimes. I’ve made those engines scream for 2 days non stop drilling Elog holes, and 20” diameter vent holes down into the mine shaft. I drilled an emergency (non life threatening situation) hole from the top of the mountain down in to the shaft, drilled on down in the floor about 4 feet with my 8 3/4” pilot hole. Delivered the 20” tri cone bit to the mouth of the mine and they carried it in with a loader and set it upside down in the pilot hole. After removing the pilot bit I sent the drill steel back down with a thread protector in the end, and the miners lined up my drill steel so I could screw it together. I reamed it out on the way back up. The cuttings just naturally fell to the floor, and while I took a rod off and got screwed back together they removed the cuttings….

dash cam, cooler, spare dip in case I run out of my nicotine vapes, wet wipes, camp bucket
