I'm with the rest of the Series 60 guys. I have to put a new one in, and I wish I had the money to go from DDEC2 to a 3, but the 2 I can get is $3,000 less than the 3 and I would need to rewire it. So 450 hp it is.

My 450 hp ISX just quit me a few weeks ago. ( oil pump quit ) I'm putting in a new long block 565 hp ISX now. Gonna run close to 30k by the time I'm done. If I have to spend the money I may as well get what I want.

C16 7CZ with the timing advanced and fuel tables jacked up. And enough radiator to handle it.

Same junk, different colour. As long as it puts 500 to the ground without any problems its good in my books.

Any acert with 16:1 pistons, no vvas maybe 750 ish hp. Or make it a 17 liter and go 900ish.
Not sure if I'd keep the compound turbos or go single. I miss the sound of my single but like the way the compounds drive and big increase on Jake holding power.
Or a KTA cummins twin turbo.
Basically anything with big power and reliabilityJoeyJunk, Another Canadian driver, petefan4000 and 3 others Thank this. -
However, I can do without the cost of a computer. I can do without the cost of wiring harnesses.I can do without the cost of sensors. I can do without the cost of electronic injectors. I can do without the cost of ever having to visit a dealer for anything ever.
I can also do without electronic diagnosis.I really am a dinosaur, but I will tell you that it's a great feeling that if you have something to diagnose in your engine it's mechanical and you go right to it. There there have been so many guys that have had some kind of a problem some kind of an intermittent problem some kind of a problem nobody can track down some kind of a Phantom ghost gremlin some problem that caused them poor fuel economy some problem that whatever whatever...
Years ago I used to read the Mechanic forum and I'd see a guy had electronic problem he spent $4000 then he went to another shop to spend another $5000 then he went to another shop… gives me a headache just thinking about it.
And if you really want to see a nightmare look up the thread on truck 307.
I don't know how to pull it up but I can't tell you how many times he had the guys from Caterpillar actually ride in his truck while having gages hooked up to his engine and they still couldn't figure out whether it was electrical problem or mechanical problem. He spent money on other things trying to chase the problem down but on the engine itself I think he spent somewhere close to $30,000.
You could rebuild the whole Big Cam easily 10 times for that amount of money.
No no no no.
The closer to Fred Flintstone I am the better.Last edited: Dec 1, 2021
