Sir, excuse me, I just had a flash back to the 70,s when all we did was a 8 hour break, you mean that is not going to cut it?
Your experience with violating HOS.

Just ask the elog pros.

No doubt running eLogs requires a certain "learning" process. They do in fact become less of a PITA as you modify your old habits and throw away certain other habits. and learn to think further ahead

So far, on paper logs, it has been easy to maintain everything 100% compliant. The only past violations were discovered due to editing errors or oversight. Very few, if anybody, were honest to the point of not correcting/editing/hiding/falsifying violations so that they would not be noticed during an inspection... and even further, if they were discovered by the carrier's safety department, the logbooks were often returned to a driver to be "corrected", so there is no chance for a DOT audit to see them. Perhaps, only mega carriers already on elogs could do little about it, but smaller carriers, of course, tried to hide violations as much as they could. So far, any HOS violations (discovered or not) had 6 months statute of limitation, sort of...and after 6 months you could shred it all and cleanse all the sins for ever. Now, if an elog provider backs it up on their servers and may never purge the records at all, they could be dug out easily, if there is any serious investigation. In real life scenarios, under current HOS, I expect a huge logarithmic increase in a total of HOS violations. They will finally see, how miserable HOS have been in real life. The fact the everybody's asking for ABORDs instead of becoming fully compliant, proves the tendency to be on a "cheating" side.

Ahem. One of my most outrageous stunts with paper logs was not to log at all. So I ran 8 days on book vacation. But ran about the USA as usual.
6 months later shred. It did not happen. =) I did keep a beater log just in case DOT stood on my fuel tank leaning in the window demanding it. It saved me in Memphis when they handed it back for correction. (You are allowed one chance to correct...)
As far as the stunt it did not happen.
What I do worry about though in these modern age of databanks that never die... theoratically you could maintain ELD logs for 10,000 years or until we are eradicated somehow. Shrugs. -
I've blown my e log repeatedly. Heck, I once broke all the HOS regs on the same day, at the same time.
I got a mild chewing by Safety. Basically boiled down to "Don't do it again until the next time."
Last time, I was told I'd get a three day unpaid vacation. Yeah, we'll see if that actually happens. Money trumps all, for me and for whatever carrier I'm working with. Profits before people, people!
