Your opinion on leaving a company...

Has it occurred to you that maybe that was the only job available to him at the time?

 

I can empathize with the driver; been in similar situations. The company didn't have a gun to his head; but, from the drivers point of view it was probably the best job available in his area at the time. Drivers are a dime a dozen if the compensation is right.

 

I never though I would leave a job with no notice, but that's not the real world. Maybe different in Canada, but down here many trucking companies immediately fire drivers that give a 2 week notice or keep them on the opposite coast from where they live.

 

I agree, which is why I think the OP should just turn in his keys and take the new job.

Obviously the company he works for now treats him like chattel, so why should he bother with the formality of giving notice?

 

Times have changed. Personally I wouldn't be sitting around Sunday wondering if I should take the load that was assigned two days ago or if I should take the new job I agreed to two days ago.

Friday, when offered the new job how hard would it have been to ask for a little time to work things out with current employer, or at least notify current employer. Unless you have a good reason for some type of revenge why in the heck would you not at the very least let them know on Friday you wouldn't cover that load?

Sorry, can't agree with doing things this way.

 

I did slip on the 800 more a week that is a big jump and I would ask some drivers already there because that do sound a little to good to be true. Unless you are just starting out making low wages and are going to a better gig I could understand that. Because I left Central refrigerated making .28 a mile averaging out to around 500 a week running otr 48, to Arnold transportation at .39 a mile averaging around 800 to 1100 running se regional. So 800 more is a big number.

 

2 days ago...that's the part that stumped me. 2nd degree murder became premeditated, and justification was needed.

 

$475/week?? 6 days? Geez.

 

I believe that every driver out there should take the lowest paying jobs there are and leave the high paying gravy jobs to someone who can really use them like me.
