And on a separate note, i read your post that i see you have edit"d, an i know i"m not going crazy, but you had said you wanted O.T.R. work for the experience, my question is why are you posting here in a L.T.L. thread witch is really not O.T.R. work?

Second observation; this is a L.T.L forum and this thread is specific to A.B.F., hence "Your Thoughts On Working For A.B.F., and my question was directed to someone who works for A.B.F.(or has experience with them), you,i am sure are getting where i"m going here....................................?

Well,I'm looking into both LTL and OTR companies as I'm still a student and dont know if I want to go OTR or LTL.
I have applied at ABF and wanted to know what the other drivers have to say about the company, what they've heard, the general concensus all that good stuff ,thus the thread title :)

I'm pretty sure at ABF the city drivers work the dock too. This will vary from one LTL to another...seems like it's more of a teamster thing to do combo work, but not exclusively. Con-way is a good example. Lean towards a non-union outfit and you'll probably have a better shot at not being expected to put in any time on the dock.

At con-way/fedex freight, you'll see more patio time than windshield time.

A lot of people hate the dock, it's not a piece of cake in the winter up north. Also a lot of people have no patience and keep repeating "I didn't get my CDL for this".
