With your situation I would suggest applying to be a "system" driver (out all week, sleeping in hotels) out of any number of Dayton Freight terminals. The closest might be Columbia, Missouri, but it looks like Kirksville it's almost the same distance to Des Moines, Iowa as well. Quad Cities could also be an option. Kansas City might be furthest away, but is the biggest terminal and might possibly have more use for a system driver, since I believe they are a breakbulk (a hub type of terminal).
As far as health insurance is concerned, our situation is incredibly good compared to most other carriers. These days, the higher salary you will make at Dayton Freight far more than outweighs the free health insurance at YRC.
I don't know if Columbia has a system driver right now or not, but the company likes having the flexibility those drivers allow and not too many people want to do that job (except drivers in your situation with very long commutes). No matter what terminal you went to, you would not be on call and would have a regular start time every week. You should put your application in and immediately call those terminals. Try Columbia and Kansas City first.
Yrc or Dayton freight?
