    100% agree.

Mclane will make a man out of you plus pay you good and you can always leave after a yr and be a high paid steering wheel holder like me later on

I worked for YRC Logistics which was non-union. Made good money running OTR, but they sold out to some other company and I left. They were always on the verge of bankruptcy and have been for a couple of decades, but seem to always scrape by. I worked there for a couple of years driving sleeper trucks doing OTR.
This looks like what I drove, except they had Internationals.

Thanks for the input, I just got the call that my background cleared for McLane, taking everything into consideration I’m going to go with McLane. I start in a couple of weeks. I had an interview with ups freight today, it went well. They scheduled me for a road test but I canceled it. I had to take the road test on a 10 speed and the truck I learned on was only a 6 speed, and wasn’t in sync with the engine like that. Even if I managed to pass that test he promised me that I would be on an extra board for awhile being everywhere. It doesn’t sound very appealing right now. At least with McLane I know for a fact I’ll alwys be on nights. Another plus is that they aren’t union. I’ve been paying union dues for a long time, and I’m not a fan of the false security and the lies, but that’s a whole other discussion. I’ll keep you guys updated. Thanks again!

I was on the extra board for years with YRC Logistics and refused to bid on any runs. Made more money than the guys that had bid runs and they stayed upset about it. I told them, "Well, you can increase your pay also if quit bidding on runs; that's your personal choice." They bid on, what I considered garbage runs, to grocery stores, Walmart, K-Mart, etc. While they're dealing with all that aggravation, I was cruising to the West Coast or South Florida, Texas, Las Vegas, etc. and loving it. They kept themselves in a tight radius in the Southeast.

I worked for Mclane Carolina (Grocery Distribution) in Battleboro NC for 6 1/2 years. Each division has its own name. It's the same Mclan that runs McLane Food Service. What you make with them depends on where you live and your seniority. McLane Mid-Atlantic in Fredericksburg VA pays their drivers significantly more than Carolina that I ran out of.
At McLane you will work your tail off. Sure, you will get in shape, but it won't take long to always be sore. We always had drivers out on Work Comp and disability for shoulders, knees, backs and wrists. We had loads fall on drivers, drivers fall off the ramp and out of the trailer. If you're hired on at a grocery division you likely will not have a liftgate. You will hand stack everything on a hand cart and run it down the ramp and run returns up the ramp. It's not uncommon to run a 20-30 hour route, cover 400 miles and deliver 20+ convenience stores with little sleep on the route in the grocery division. Food service has it a little better, but not much.
YRC will open the door to other LTL companies later down the road. Starting there will be better in the long run in my opinion.

Currently I weigh about 200 pounds and could probably lose a little bit of weight but I look not too bad, maybe a little stocky.

But when I worked for AmeriServ I weighed 160 lb and could not put on 1 lb of weight. I literally ran my arse off.
    Hard work.

Overall, I would say that YRC is a good place to learn LTL. But it's not a good place to stay.

Someone brought up the point that non-union companies are reluctant to hire YRC employees because they are often pro-union. If you go into a job interview and say you specifically want out of the union because you don't like it, all will be forgiven.

It's possible that FedEx didn't pick you for the job you wanted because you don't have LTL experience. Reapply in a year, with some experience under your belt. LTL is a great way to make a living. Food service is far too rough on your body. LTL is also rough on the body... just in different ways.
