I know some of the Watkins drivers that got a bad deal out of that.
Don't forget FedEx swallowed up American(formerly Arkansas freight) before they swallowed up Watkins.

Lets not forget Transcon, Ryder P.I.E and ICX. They all used to run Cabover sleepers for their team linehaul runs. They were a regular on the highways when i started in 1977

You've been in the game since 1977, I bet you've seen a lot of things change. I used to talk to some drivers that drove in the 70's and they would tell me how much money they were making then. Seems like we make less now.

I wasnt making a lot, but then nothing really cost much back in the late 70's. My first job was driving teams for Frozen Food Express (FFE) out of lancaster TX. Didnt make much but you know what< back then it was enjoyable to drive. I drove mostly nights and can remember being on the road with all the Fallen flags of the LTL industry: ETMF (east texas motor freight, Gordons transport, Mason dixon, interstate system, Red ball/spector etc. Times were good back then, interstates were literally empty after midnite except for truckers.

Sounds like what the other drivers I talked to said. Too bad. Seems our pick of good companies is almost gone. Is it true that deregulation ruined a lot of the companies? That's what they used to complain about.

YEa they are all not around as much anymore. My shop steward told me back when he started, if Yellow had no work he could easily go to another Company thats the same local as us and theyd put you to work for the day if they had the freight... Now only ones in our local is UPSF and ABF

I wouldnt consider Estes to be a scab company........ They are no worse than Fedex or Conway

I didnt call estes a scab company... The company that pulls UPSF trailers (Truck-Rite) in NYC, parts of jersey, westchester and long island is an old scab company
